Moreover, the man's expected to be released from Hospital early next week - hardly indicative of Polonium poisoning. Further to that particular issue, it's not in the slightest true continually held allusion that Polonium_210 is only available from Russian nuclear reactors. Canada also maintains nuclear facilities which produce Polonium, equally Polonium_210 does in fact have industrial uses and is used as such as part of various processes outside the former USSR. One final point regarding the nature of the substance: radioactively speaking Polonium itself doesn't have the capacity to pass radiation through so much as a piece of paper. You put it in a container with the lid on, it stays in there without leaving radioactive traces in its wake, providing of course due attention has been used during containment. Equally, if introduced into the human body it doesn't have the capacity to leak radioactivity out through the tissue surrounding it - the only way it can escape is through bodily fluids. Sweat, basically. That being the case of course, it would be remarkably easy for anyone so inclined to leave a deliberate and misleading trail of its passage - providing, of course, those parties so inclined to look were provided with a distinct notion of what it was specifically they were looking for...
