Will you be upgrading your current Operating System to that of Microsoft Windows Vista (codename Longhorn) once it's released. My thinking here is that if you intend on using DirectX 10 you almost certainly will have to upgrade. If however you only plan on keeping the current graphics card you own then upgrading becomes less important.

As far as I've learned Vista has abandoned its WinFS (Windows File System), this was one primary purpose for it's existence in the first place, at least according to Bill Gates.

So will you upgrade or keep XP. In all honesty we each know where this is going, XP will be left behind by programmers who seek to improve applications solely for Vista. I think because of that fact I'll be upgrading to Vista when it's available (provided I have the money of course).

If my choice is between XP and Vista ONLY, I would give Vista a shot...

Vista with the new harddrive that uses flash memory will mean close to instant boots. It will also mean that most application will run from flash with very little accessing of the harddrive. If you add a dual boot processor as well then upgrading has never been so good.

  14. Upgrading? No. I've never upgraded a windows platform ever. Whatever the machine I've used shipped with, that's what it uses. Be the same deal with Vistas by the time I get round to picking up a new machine.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider picking up a Windows OS until at least the first service pack is available - why people fall over themselves to pay for the privilege of being little more than beta-testers for a multi-billion dollar industry is beyond my ability to noodle, but that's possibly just me.

In the meantime XP's about the only long term, stable platform, outside of NT Microsoft have released and that's perfectly adequate for me. Awfully nice of them to finally pull their fingers out and deliver something which actually does what it says on the tin, but frankly they've hardly got a track record of delivering the goods straight off the bat in the past I singularly fail to see why Vistas is going to prove any different.

I've already tried it.... and can't say that I'm impressed. Then again, I'm no fan of the 'bells and whistles are more important than function' mindset.

I am going to wait a few months before I decide to update. My experience with 64-bit XP isn't the best... and I am afraid to upgrade when I have 16 bit programs I use. Plus, I had oh-so-much fun with drivers.

You do realize that Vista is the most invasive bullshit ever to be produced by Microsoft? You know how one can't send Mp3s and many file types won't open on MSN when transfered? Now imagine that on your computer. With no ability to change it. Ever. And which will even delete your mp3s and anything it finds unacceptable?

Yes. Count me out. Windows XP Home will be my last Windows.

Also, it will run absurdly heavy and offer virtually nothing.

Im gonna a kee a seperate machine to run XP because Prince James is on to something. This is going to be one nosey OS.

Hell, it just may push me to Apple...if Apple can keep itself from upgrading their hardware every other week.

I will keep a version of it, for bussiness purposes. But i'm really just waiting for it to hit the shelves, then afterwords i'm selling every single bit of my stocks before Gates leaves his position.

I have a very slow connection speed and Vista makes it incredibly a lot slower, so I went back to version 6.

Anyone remember this? It takes me back to my good years. I was 10 or something. BBSing, Doom I and II, Duke Nukem, tying up the phone line...

I think you should keep that relic to auction off at Sotheby's or Christie's in New York.

All this stuff about deleting MP3s is a bit of a concern. Can't find anything about it on Google though. Does anyone else know anything about this?
