Avatar 04-04-07, 03:57 AM You can look for signs of ancient ruins and meteor craters. vslayer 04-04-07, 04:29 AM the imagery over NZ is pretty poor. i suppose it would be handy if you lived in europe though. Nikelodeon 04-06-07, 02:40 AM Find the Nazca lines. RubiksMaster 04-07-07, 07:25 PM Find, and tag all the hotels you've ever stayed at. I pretty much found all of mine, except 3 or 4 from when I was too young to remember. redarmy11 04-08-07, 02:29 AM Absolutely eff all, in other words. Congratulations, you've just spent 30 minutes installing a piece of junk, just so you could look at your house - something that you could have achieved in five seconds flat if you'd had the sense to step outside. Syzygys 04-08-07, 07:01 AM Excep the can't look at it from ABOVE. Here is what you can do Leopold. Grab the Earth and spin it. Depending on the spin you can fly over areas with different speeed, it is like a flightsimulator. redarmy11 04-08-07, 07:13 AM  nietzschefan 04-08-07, 11:07 PM I found the smog shown on it interesting. As I suspected most of the stuff we get in southern Ontario is from DETROIT, ohio, and other steelhouse shitholes. OMG England is a dirty looking place, how can you breathe there? I could make out the crop circles in the country though, neeatoooo Position your sights over washington D.C(white house is most interesting), all kinds of shapes U.S freemason forefathers designed with the streets. leopold99 04-09-07, 01:03 AM crop circles? post latitude and longitude please. vslayer 04-09-07, 01:21 AM hes probably just talking about circular patterns on the ground. most likely created by pivot irrigation. Plazma Inferno! 04-09-07, 04:18 AM How some famous places and cities cannot be zoomed in more than just dim contoures? I can zoom in my house pretty neat, although I live out of the 'Roman roads'. AK444 04-09-07, 04:25 AM watch the world right from your computer. Blindman 04-09-07, 07:52 PM I live on the edge of a state forest that goes on for a round 50km. I love going for bush walks and found google earth an invaluable tool for locating tracks and interesting features, something no map I could ever find could give me. francois 04-10-07, 09:18 AM Check out the Grand Canyon, the Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza. Those are kinda neat. Also check out the Hoover Dam. Then zoom in on the Hoover dam, so you can see the cars clearly, and then tilt the map so you can almost see the horizon, so you're not looking directly down, but at an angle. It's pretty funny how Google Earth deals with altitude differences. one_raven 04-10-07, 10:17 AM Is it much better resolution and zoom that maps.google.com? Sock puppet path 04-10-07, 11:08 AM Now that I live in a far flung land I like to take a virtual trip down memory lane through the streets and places I trod as a young man once in awhile. Just discovered that my mothers next door neighbor has uploaded pics of the street she lives on and the park beside it. leopold99 04-10-07, 11:28 AM Is it much better resolution and zoom that maps.google.com? in las vegas and seattle you can see people. there are still alot of places that suck when it comes to resolution. the 2 i mentioned are the only ones i know of with really good zoom. one_raven 04-10-07, 11:29 AM in las vegas and seattle you can see people. there are still alot of places that suck when it comes to resolution. the 2 i mentioned are the only ones i know of with really good zoom. Cool. I think I'm going to check it out. Thanks. Sock puppet path 04-10-07, 11:59 AM Check paris too nietzschefan 04-10-07, 12:30 PM crop circles? post latitude and longitude please. Ok, when I get home. If you have the "i" landmarks active they are easy to find in southwest england, not quite as far as Cornwall and southeast of glouchester - i don't know what the area is called. I was actually looking for the "Camel" rivers and didn't find them. It's no big deal really, they are probably maintained by the farmers, whether or not "someone" else made them. leopold99 04-10-07, 12:59 PM what about stonehenge? isn't that in england too? nietzschefan 04-10-07, 01:57 PM LoL yeah, somewhere near the southwest coast, I think. I wanted to find that too, then I got distracted by the pollution I saw. vslayer 04-10-07, 02:54 PM i heard there were far more interesting stone circles in ireland. nietzschefan 04-10-07, 04:48 PM crop circles? post latitude and longitude please. 51deg 25min 09 sec N 1 deg 50min 14 sec w there are about 4-5 shapes in the general area. one_raven 04-10-07, 05:16 PM All right. I downloaded it. Give me some good stuff to see. Nikelodeon 04-10-07, 05:18 PM http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=63331 leopold99 04-10-07, 06:45 PM All right. I downloaded it. Give me some good stuff to see. check out your house, it's the first thing i did. getting good stuff to see is what this thread is about. if you come across anything press shift+print screen, open paint and on the edit menu click paste, click save as (filename).jpg, then host it. or you can write down the lat/ long (lower left corner) and post those. leopold99 04-13-07, 08:42 PM stonehenge 51d, 10m, 43.97s north 1d, 49m, 35.10s west there is other stuff in the vicinity. DNA100 04-22-07, 11:58 AM I am using it for nearly a year now.And I have to say it's cool. I wonder what is the future of this technology. S.A.M. 04-22-07, 12:12 PM I like to look at places I've been and look for familiar landmarks like the Mosque in Mecca, Manhattan, Miami beach, Madh Island, Bombay Pune roads, Goa, or even places I'd not been but would like to see, like the Wall of China or the Temple of the Mount in Israel. Its fun. redarmy11 04-22-07, 12:22 PM stonehenge 51d, 10m, 43.97s north 1d, 49m, 35.10s west there is other stuff in the vicinity. Does this 'other stuff' resemble a bunch of stoned hippies in any fashion? Nikelodeon 04-22-07, 12:22 PM Hey lay off the druids! redarmy11 04-22-07, 12:23 PM Yeah, that's what I keep tellin' em. leopold99 08-12-07, 09:21 AM the strangest sights in google earth: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,134186-page,1-c,mapping/article.html cosmictraveler 08-12-07, 10:58 AM i've installed google earth. what kinds of cool stuff can i do with it? i've already checked out my house. Think about what the capabilities are that the military have with it. They could watch you at your house and where you travel. dsdsds 08-12-07, 11:02 AM On google earth, pictures from my neighborhood are more than 3 years old. Is this typical? hypewaders 08-12-07, 11:17 AM Yes. My area is still shown with 4-year-old imagery. As I'm sure you have noticed, resolution varies considerably too. The Google Earth Community (http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php/Cat/0) board shares all sorts of interesting and categorized things to spy. Stryder 08-12-07, 03:22 PM Think about what the capabilities are that the military have with it. They could watch you at your house and where you travel. Google earth isn't a live map, it's a composite of hundreds of thousands of images. Some satellite but the most are from aircraft. The images aren't necessarily recent either. For instance my local area had some roads that were completed circa 1998, but it also contained views of a Helicopter firm that's no longer in the area and a long brown tract where a gas line was put that stretches for about 50 miles. (They put that in in 1992) What would of been interesting is if Google Earth had somehow linked with Archive.org's wayback machine and started sculpturing the world as and when we saw it back in the day. S.A.M. 08-12-07, 03:38 PM I'm surprised they haven't put up their own satellite. inzomnia 08-12-07, 03:51 PM Hi, why not posting the image of interesting places that you could find in google earth? hypewaders 08-12-07, 04:12 PM Sam: "I'm surprised they haven't put up their own satellite." I doubt it would improve the imagery much: Either they would submit to U.S. censorship, or suffer unfortunate "technical difficulties". S.A.M. 08-12-07, 04:13 PM Sam: "I'm surprised they haven't put up their own satellite." I doubt it would change the imagery much: Either they would submit to Pentagon censorship, or suffer unfortunate "technical difficulties". I mean, seeing as they are so on top of all other media control. hypewaders 08-12-07, 04:14 PM They could certainly afford it. leopold99 08-12-07, 04:25 PM the strangest sights in google earth: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,134186-page,1-c,mapping/article.html the instructions say to open this file from its current location. that doesn't seem to work with my machine so i saved it to the setup files for google earth and opened it from there. Look for your brain, I know it's there somewhere! :p cute virgil. I'm surprised they haven't put up their own satellite. google earth software was purchased from another company that was planning on selling it to the masses. google snatched it up and gave it away. pretty nice of them i would say. cosmictraveler 08-12-07, 06:41 PM Google earth isn't a live map, it's a composite of hundreds of thousands of images. I only was trying to answer this question. "Originally Posted by DNA100 I am using it for nearly a year now.And I have to say it's cool. I wonder what is the future of this technology. " leopold99 08-12-07, 07:05 PM las vegas has resolutions good enough to see people on the ground. Lord Hillyer 08-14-07, 02:43 PM It is fun to look up all the old 'secret' ICBM silos in the US and ex-USSR. Some are blurred out and many hundreds of others are in plain, crystal-clear view. blobrana 07-11-08, 01:53 PM Google Earth Version 4.3.7284.3916 Read more (http://pack.google.com/intl/en/installer_eula.html?ci_earth=on&hl=en&gl=us) Syzygys 07-11-08, 02:29 PM What is the difference/improvement? cosmictraveler 07-11-08, 03:33 PM Don't forget to check off those "Layers" section to get even more stuff added to your views. I didn't check off 3D buildings photorealistic setting until recently and that gives an even better view of everything. I just don't like it because it isn't "real time" but photos from over a year or more ago. :( John99 07-11-08, 05:41 PM I mean, seeing as they are so on top of all other media control. I would lock you in a tower like Cinderella. cosmictraveler 07-11-08, 05:46 PM I would lock you in a tower like Cinderella. Actually that was Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm. John99 07-11-08, 05:52 PM I didnt think sam would have heard of Rapunzel. cosmictraveler 07-11-08, 05:53 PM I didnt think sam would have heard of Rapunzel. I think that it is a good alternative to taking a map with me or a navigation computer in the automobile and it helps me train my memory. Steve100 07-12-08, 06:03 AM I checked out all the houses in England I have lived in (8). I tried to do this with only the image and no place names or anything; kept me amused for a while.. And found the town and compound I used to live in in Saudi Arabia called Khamis Mushayt. I also found many landmarks we used to pass on the way to our fishing trips to the Red sea.
