Subject: FRIENDSHIP

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had
driven 37 nails into the fence.

Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't
lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pulls out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.

He said, "You have done well, my son,
but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like
this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times
you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there."

A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Friends are a very rare jewel indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.

tab,

Wonderful story - very printable - thanks.

Cris

PS. I think I was a little curt with one of your replies some days ago, when you were giving support to a newcomer. You gave me support when I first started and I was always thankful for that. Please accept my apologies if you were in any way offended. True friends truly are rare jewels.

Hey guys,
thanks for responding. I've decided to take some time out from the board to concentrate on more creative things.
You know even though I don't actually work for a living, the older I get (47) the quicker time seems to wizz by and there are soooo many things I like to do and want to do and to be perfectly honest I don't see much point in repeating myself over and over (it's not as if I'm that convinced by my own theories).
I think it's time to get some more real life under my belt if I'm gonna get any more insights into this life but I will be popping in from time to time. So...keep the coffee hot and a packet of skins handy!
Later...

tab,

Your posts are well balanced and often full of real compassion. I am also 47 but I haven't repeated myself often enough for the moment and hope to find new approaches. I am very comfortable with the atheist label and hope to convince others to join me (an evangelical atheist maybe). Good luck in your search.
