Free ebooks; selection not too bad. Need a "real" email address though, not hotmail or yahoo or gmail, though. :(

The kind I can read on the train, or the bus, or in a dark alleyway.

Oh right. No. No such things exist.

What have you got against carrying normal books? 1000s of them.

Known forms of eBook readers:

Desktop computers
Laptop computers
Personal Digital Assistants (aka PDAs)
Posh mobile phones, possibly (and I mean posh)
Dedicated eBook readers, possibly
Other assorted electronic 'gizmos' - possibly

You may find some forms more suitable for your purpose than others. eg if you were to take a desktop PC on the train... where on earth would you plug it in!??1!

I know of a great way of getting ebooks -- without a "real" (or any) email address -- but it is not at all legal... I've been reading Laberge's "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming", and I'll start on "A Brief History of Time" soon after that, then I'll read this book about genetic algorithms (quite complex programming stuff), that is, if I ever get the motivation (but that's another issue entirely).

Dedicated eBook reader from Sony. Nice, but pricey; very, very pricey.
