With bluetooth, it really is like a virus. It spreads in an area about itself. People might come in from other regions carrying the virus and start a new outbreak.

Looks like it's just an annoyance right now. Wait til someone makes one to jack you into some 900 lines and the like.

I notice that it was anti-virus developer that discovered the virus. Maybe they're just trying to edge into a new market? I've noticed a lot of web sites and some scanners that try to give you a false positive on a virus check to sell their software.

Recently, I saw a report on these cellphone virus thing.
There existed a virus for some cellphones, that used the java capabilities to gain control over some functions. For example, it started to send SMS to expensive numbers...

Some guy who worked for a telecommunication company as a software counselor or something like that, showed that these viruses can be quite harmful because the cellphones have no protection as of yet.

If it spreads by bluetooth, if i have my "make my bluetooth discoverable" disabled ,does that protect my phone?

if your phone isnt set to discoverable the other phones with the virus in range will not know to send it to you and youll be ok. the virus is easily removed with a file manager on your pc, as it hides itself in a hidden folder which you cant access from your phone. apparently, it does nothing but scan constantly for other phones to send to, which can greatly reduce your battery time. its basically just a proof-of-concept virus set free.

Anybody who owns a 'phone with an OS sophisticated enough to be hacked deserves everything he/she has coming.

Ignore me I'm an old man. I grew up back in the day when watches told the time, phones were for talking to people and computers came with the OS in ROM.
