torture as commonly used means to inflict pain severe enough to cause disability, disfigurement, or even death.

today "torture" is a little more refined. includes forced lack of sleep and waterboarding. neither of the above will cause death, pain, or physical disfigurement.

Torture and the USA

The USA has stopped teaching dictatorial nations torture techniques because they don't want to miss out on all the fun. Recently they tested how long CIA agents could withstand one of their favourite torture techniques, the so-called waterboarding technique. CIA officers lasted a measly 14 seconds[1]. Alleged Al Qaeda agent Khalid Sheik Mohammed lasted 2 and a half minutes before confessing having sex with Barbera Bush.
