A sniper is a combatant who's main tactic involves shooting at the target from a long distance using a relatively accurate firearm, and usually from a concealed position.

In conversation or politics, someone who snipes is someone who drops hints or insults once every so often and the insult cuts directly into the bone. Snipers often hide their insults in long posts, or drop it at the end of the conversation.
