Known primarily as one-hit wonders who produced the bland synth-pop that was 1980's "Whip It", Devo actually have a long and excellent pedigree, stretching back to the early 1970s. In the latter years of that decade the band were prime movers in the American art-rock scene, producing a string of fine singles - such as 'Mongoloid', 'Come Back Jonee' and their bastardised cover of The Rolling Stones '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction)' - which failed to make any impact in their home country, and which languished unfairly at the bottom end of the UK singles chart. So one-hit wonders they may have been, but one shouldn't take this as a reflection of their worth.
