Application of Xylene
Biological sciences
Xylene is used during deparaffination and dehydration of tissues. During dehydration a tissue is moved from a water-based buffer or water through a series of ethanols with increasing percentage. After the final wash in 99% ethanol the tissue is moved through xylene to prepare the tissue for penetration with a wax. In deparaffination this procedure is followed in opposite direction. Xylene is used to dissolve the wax from the tissue.
