Sublime

• in chemistry sublime means to go from a solid to a gas without becoming liquid first. conversely it means to go from a gas directly to a solid without the intervening liguid phase.

a typical example would be dry ice. dry ice is solid CO2 (carbon dioxide), dry ice doesn't "melt" but sublimes to a gas.
