when used as a compuer term denotes a set of flip-flops used to store temporary results inside a CPU. in the 6800 CPU there are the following registers, A, B, index, ALU, program counter (PC), stack, control register. all of the above are 8 bit registers with the exception of the program counter and the stack which are both 16 bits.
