Helmet

A device worn on the head, to protect against injury.

Bicycle helmets can really mitigate damage to the head. There is some really good science to back this up, from a physical and engineering point of view, but the elaboration is tedious. Thus, there is no need for bullshit statistics or some cloudy "debate" like in Wikipedia. Just wear a fucking helmet.
