Computer

There are two principle types of computers, analog and digital. The one most of us think about when someone says "computer" is the digital type. A good example of an analog computer is the slide rule.

Originally, a computer was a person, usually a woman, who computed stuff. Most of these computers were analog, as far as we know. See also pipetteer.
