'Fruitless Chin-Stroking' is used to denote topics that no-one will ever get anywhere with debating on Sciforums, either because there is no simple right or wrong answer, or because people tend to post on the topic in accordance with their own deeply-entrenched beliefs about the issue rather than on an analysis of the available evidence, or because the topic itself is bullshit, or for some other reason. The probability that a debate on these subjects will end in an all-out flamewar is as close to 1.0 as makes no difference.
