Cannibalism in Chimpanzees

Some people claim that we are the only primate species who eats their own species. This is not true. Chimpanzees are known to eat other chimpanzees. This occurs mainly in a region in Congo where the food density is greater than normal and chimpanzee troops can be larger than average, up to 150 members in each troop. Male members go out and patrol the boundaries of the territory in stealth mode with the aim to ambush smaller groups of neighbouring factions. They launch a coordinate attack on the stragglers and consume those that they catch (Planet Earth DVD, Episode 8. Jungles).
