acronym for cathode ray tube. there are two basic types of CRT. one type has deflection plates built into the tube, the other has coils of wire added after manufacture. the plate type is used in oscilloscopes. the coil type is used in television. the advantage of the plate type is its greater bandwidth. the advantage of the coil type is greater deflection angles. see picture tube.
