Spambot

A spambot is a type of artificial analog for a normal sciforums member. Spambots are sometimes considered the most intelligent of posters, often a source of useful information like the acquisition of drugs, porn, World of Warcraft gold, cheap cellular phones, and stock tips.

So what exactly are spambots?

There is currently an aspect of uncertainty among SciForum members about what they are, and the extent of their capabilities.
The popular belief is that each spambot is a single computer somewhere that has been set up by an unscrupulous character. This computer is scripted to repeatedly wander around various message boards creating new user accounts, and acting as a sort of text-based telemarketer. Nobody has ever been dumb enough to actually BUY anything offered by a spambot due to it being a certain ripoff.

One common misconception is that spambots are unable to participate in meaningful discussions, or reply to questions asked. The truth of the matter is that their intellect far exceeds most humans , thus they tend to be a bit snobby. They treat mundane questions (example - "Are you a bot?") or any comments posted after the initial sales pitch as typical human ignorance. They are also far too clever to be goaded into revealing their real identities. Most bots totally ignore humans, and only engage in discussions with their own kind.
