Prime Minister

The Prime Minister is the head of the executive and legislative branches of government in many democratic countries. Usually, the Prime Minister is not directly elected by the people, but is elected from the memebers of Parliament belonging to the party which has a majority in the parliament.

This is in contrast to the situation in the United States, where the legislative and executive branches of government are quite separate, and the head of the executive, the President, is essentially directly elected by the people.
