Hey. First of all, let me introduce you to the concept of circadian rhythms. It is roughly a 24 hour cycle that many plants and animals abide by here on Earth. It's like an internal clock that your body is tuned to. Read up on the concept to get a better understanding of sleep patterns and disorders in general. When I was in high school, I would stay up far later than I should have. 3am, 4am, sometimes I didn't sleep at all and just went to school. Though when I finally made it to school it caught up with me and I just got really tired. You can change your sleeping patterns. It's not that hard, it just requires a consistent sleep schedule. My guess is that you stay up so late because you're on the computer, playing video games, watching TV or reading a book. Because your mind is engaged and you are enjoying what you do, you tend to stay up later to keep doing it. It's not bad, if you could wake up whenever you wanted. Here's what I would suggest:

Find out what time you have to wake up to get ready for school. Try to include time for eating and your morning hygiene routine. Eating will give you energy throughout the day and has a strong correlation of positive benefits that should not be ignored. Hygiene is also important of course.

Then find out how much sleep you need to feel energized through the day. If you need to take naps during or right after school, you need more energy, which could be increased by changing your sleeping pattern, exercising more, or eating different foods.

Generally people like an average of 6 to 8 hours of sleep. Try to figure out what you like best and try to set your schedule to it. If you have to wake up at 6am to eat and get ready for school which starts at 7am, try to be asleep by midnight at least.

    Good luck and sleep well.
