View Full Version : dont you get it? you are being insulted..
has anyone else here had the same problem as me???
i call someone a religious fundy, or a conservative, or something equally offensive and they seem to take it as a compliment.
if this sort of thing has happened to you, what words did you call someone?
spuriousmonkey 10-21-04, 06:46 AM call them gay...
nah, that wouldn't work, cos the conversation usually goes
me - 'ur a conservative'
them - "thank you, what's youre point? you are gay"
me - 'thank you, what's your point?'

I don't think they took it as a compliment. They gave you a chance to think about what you've said -- and you have dleiberately said something offensive.
That should make you think.

Why are you name calling? Does it make you feel better about your own viewpoint? surely if your viewpoint is solid then you would overlook anothers apparent misguidedness? If you want them to understand your viewpoint I cannot imagine that insulting them would help to win them over?
But then I am a twat so what would I know?
well, they said thank you for it, and didnt sound sarcastic.
the conservative one, i actually like the guy, its just joking insults which he takes as joking compliments
and the religious fundy called me heathen scum first, so i thought anything i called her was fair game
c20H25N3o 10-21-04, 07:37 AM Bless them and smile on them ;)

Tell them their child is gay and you had sex with him.
hypatia 10-21-04, 09:08 AM I've frequently been called 'liberal' as if it were an insult.
Usually what I do in response is post the dictionary definition of 'liberal,' which is quite positive and even flattering. :)
By the way, of course conservatives and religious fundies don't view those terms as insults, just as I don't think 'liberal' is an insult. They're happy to own the name.
And frankly, I think this whole culture of dirty words is ridiculous. I certainly don't use 'conservative' as an epithet; it's just descriptive of a particular set of political beliefs.

What I would like to understand is why you need to call someone else names? Can't you use your intelligence and say something more useful rather than downgrading yourself by showing others that you don't have a large vocabulary to express your opinions without lowering yourself to name calling.

I am a proud conservative (when I'm in the mood for it). I am also sincerely flattered when called a monster, a lunatic, a maniac, and other things. I take curse words as a joke.
I know how to insult members, but I won't share the secret :p

spurious monkey, you're full of smart suggestions
yeah, i spose, but i see the deffinition of conserve as 'to stop change or progress'
progress is (in my opinion) a good thing
lixluke 10-22-04, 05:23 PM I call anybody that hates religion in public an "Atheist."
They might say that they're not Atheist or that they are a Jew, a Christian, a Muslim, A Hindu, A Buddhist, or whatever.
I could care less.
If you develop an irate emotional response upon religion being practiced or promoted in public, I don't care what your belief is, I'll call you a blithering Atheist.
That's because it doesn't matter what you believe in. I don't care if you believe that you speak to angels falling out of the sky every morning, and that God will make you fly if you jump out of the highrise window.
An atheist is anybody that gets upset upon seeing religion in public.
progress is (in my opinion) a good thing
who judges what is progress and what is not?
it's very subjective
I don't think that conservative is an insult
and I'd be flattered if called a heathen scum
Logically Unsound 10-30-04, 02:58 PM just beat them into submission until they accept your beliefs..... people have been doing it for centuries and it always works.
A Canadian 10-30-04, 04:48 PM "Smart poeple only speak when they have something to say, Fools only speak when they have to say something"
I don't know why, but that phrase sums up my thoughts on insults.
