And there was me thinking "here" meant this shithole of a website...

:)

However, you speak of planet Earth.

Could it be better? The answer is a painfully obvious "yes".

Is it nonetheless a beautiful world WITH all it's horrors? The answer again is an equally unequivocal "yes".

I have a better question.....

Will it be a better place, given Mans dual capacities for self-improvement AND self-destruction, 200 years from now???

This world...
mmm...
warmed by a continuously exploding nuclear holocaust... shielded by a big fat molten magnet in it's guttiwutts... spiffy setup !

The Universe...
Gigantic enigma whose purpose you just can't figure out even when you determine how most of it works !

Everything...
Plenty to bitch about !

I like earth because on Earth, you feel good about yourself when you do a flying side kick to some guys face. I mean, if we didn't have earth, and we were in some gravity-ridden place, then kicking people in the face wouldn't take on the same meaning, you know?

I like this world. I think that it is basicaly a good world because there are more people like the person my father wanted me to be than people whom he would dispise me for being.

When I was about 11-12, my father said something like the following. There are some people in this world who do their best to kept their word. They try to avoid lying. Whatever their job or business, they try to do their best. They do not look for ways to cheat. Even in unimportant ways, they act responsibly: They do not throw trash out of the window of their car; They do not pass on nasty gossip; If they cannot say something nice, they do not say anything about a fellow man/woman. They might not go out of their way to be charitable, but they do not look for a free lunch. If they would not do something when they are being watched, they will not do it when they are alone.

The world is a better place because of these people people, even if they do not win a Nobel prize or a medal of honor.

There are some people who do the minimum required of them. If they can get away with shrirking a duty, they will. If they cannot be forced to keep their word, they will go back on it. If lying or cheating looks profitable, they will lie and cheat. If they can get a free ride at somebody else's expense, they will take it. If nobody is looking, they will steal, litter, or do anyting else they might not want others to see them do.

These people make the world a worse place. The world would be better off if these people never existed.

Then there is a vast majority who neither make the world better or worse for having been here. They just muddle along. My father said he expected me to be a member of the first group. If I could not, then he wanted me to be a member of the last group. He said that he would not consider me his son or ever ever speak to me if he ever discovered that I was a member of the other group.

On a more serious note... one wonders what it is about better appreciating the pleasures of existence which the substance in question could assist...
Having tried a thing or 3 in my day, I must say that the greatest 'revelation' involving them was that they were, in fact, impediments to deeper perception rather than vehicles to achieving it. (at least for me)
They induce spiffy sensations, but considered in retrospect, these seem more distractions than anything else.

LSD is a sacrament. i know many youngens thrrow lots of shit down their thorats---getting 'blitzed' 'gettin fucked'. i am against this and try and create intelligent debate about psychedelics. Those for whom English is a second or third language can sometimes be distinguished from those who are either poorly educated or not very bright.

Those mentally impaired or physically impaired due to dyslexia/palsy-like problems cannot usually be diagnosed via reading of their posts.

I thought Sweden was a Statistical Anomaly when it came to Women out-numbering men. Kind of reminds me of an anecdote of my youth.
Myself a friend and seven females, with which he didn't want to stick around.

Funny enough I got a little worried at the prospects of being stripped of my worldly posessions, clothing and kicked out of the Caravan they were staying in at a holiday resort. I didn't fancy the walk home with the local security guard on the prowl and me dressed in my birthday suit.

The moral to this story is, you might dream of such a reality appearing in your life, but when it happens your mind can be awash with all the problems that the situation can cause.

I can imagine wrestling in zero g. I think the martial arts folks call it grappling, which might be a better description.

You cannot turn in zero g or apply torque without being in contact with a wall, the floor, or the ceiling. When you push off from a surface, there is no way to change your initial direction. If you impart a spin as you leave a surface, you can increase or decrease the spin rate using the same technique skaters and divers do. Otherwise, you have little control over your motion until you touch another surface.

I doubt that instincts honed in a gravitaional field would be much use in zero g. Without some practice, a martial arts expert might be beaten by a novice who had several hours of training in zero g.

BTW: are you aware that you can jump higher on the moon due to the reduced gravity, but cannot run as fast? This effect is even worse in zero g.
