I have one small rose on my back.
Personally I think a couple are nice but once you start going overboard
I find it looks trashy.

i love tattoos and i plan to have lots more, if i can fit them all in of course, i am just 5ft tall
No tattoos, no piercings.
Body is just a tool I use, and I see no reason to colour it with images that I might not like the next day or year.
Piercings are a no, no if you're into martial arts. They're an entry point for infection and a liablility in fight.
shorty_37 05-30-07, 11:21 AM As I always say to each his own. I also find some ppl suit tattoos
and alot of them where on some ppl they just look dumb. I think you have to have the overall look do you know what i mean?

:bugeye: Did you have that one checked by elves to make sure it doesn't say "Ogre breath"? :bugeye:
"in the language of the elves", huh?
one_raven 05-30-07, 12:40 PM I have one tattoo right now on my right thigh.
I am planning two more - one on my left thigh and my whole back.
To decribe the ones on my thighs would take far too long.
I am getting Da Vinci's Vitruvius on my back...

I have nothing pierced anymore.
I had both ears and both hands (that webbing between your thumb and forefinger) pierced at different times.
Piercing my hand was one of the most painful things I have ever done to myself. That was quite a few years ago now.
kenworth 05-30-07, 12:56 PM i am about to have something tatooed on my arm.,
would be interested in opinions actually,i am going to get a coil from my upper arm to my elbow of the (mistranslated) oppeniheimer quote
"if you could see a thousand suns, illuminated at once...you would know me.for i am become death, the destroyer(shatterer) of worlds,"
ending on my inner arm with a radio image of the sun...
going to the atomic bomb museum in nagasaki has kinda harderned ,my resolve....

lucifers angel 05-30-07, 01:00 PM :bugeye: Did you have that one checked by elves to make sure it doesn't say "Ogre breath"? :bugeye:
"in the language of the elves", huh?
pmsl, its the langauge that J.R.Tolkien wrote in his books.
one_raven 05-30-07, 01:00 PM You are still getting that quote even after you found it was mistranslated?
one_raven 05-30-07, 01:03 PM its the langauge that J.R.Tolkien wrote in his books.
I know it is.
I've heard of Elvish.
I think it's a bit silly to refer to it as "the language of the elves" is all. :D
pmsl
What the hell does that mean?:bugeye:
kenworth 05-30-07, 01:04 PM You are still getting that quote even after you found it was mistranslated?
i was thinking about that.
the mistranslated quote reflects my feelings so deeply that i feel it doesnt matter.
what is important is the tattoos meaning towards me.as a reminder.
honestly i have never found words that reflected my feeling to such a profound level, mistranslated or not.
lucifers angel 05-30-07, 01:05 PM I know it is.

What the hell does that mean?:bugeye:
pissing myself laughing, and why not refer it to the language of the elves becasue tolkien himself does.
phonetic 05-30-07, 01:05 PM I'd rather put some nice art on my walls.
But that's just me.
I change my mind about things I like all the time, so a tattoo isn't a great idea for me, personally.
lucifers angel 05-30-07, 01:06 PM i'm having a big welsh dragon done soon, i am going to have it done around my breast.
one_raven 05-30-07, 01:07 PM honestly i have never found words that reflected my feeling to such a profound level, mistranslated or not.
Explain to me how thses words reflect your feeling, please.
Is Oppenheimer a hero of yours of some sort?
What's a "radio image of the sun"?
domesticated om 05-30-07, 01:09 PM I have no tattoos, but few body piercings......most of which I don't wear any more because I'm too old.
I have a labret, tongue pierced, right nostril, septum (stretched to 4 gauge), both nipples, both ears (stretched to 1/2 inch)
one_raven 05-30-07, 01:13 PM Body is just a tool I use, and I see no reason to colour it with images that I might not like the next day or year.

I kind of like the fact that my philosophical outlook and ideas have changed since my first tattoo (which I designed to reflect my philosophical outlook and ideas).
It is a piece of history of me.
If it weren't who I was, I would not be who I am.
I have grown a great deal from that point.
I regret nothing I have ever done, because everything I have ever done resulted in who I am.
The tattoo on my opposite thigh is going to be one that refects my current philosophical view.
I have been working on it for about a year or two now, and It is getting near complete.
kenworth 05-30-07, 01:14 PM Explain to me how thses words reflect your feeling, please.

What's a "radio image of the sun"?
its very very hard to explain.
to deal with the easy question..the radio image of the sun is just an image of the sun taken at radio wavelength.cool sunspots and all.
the feeling is.........
man is destructive, the stupidty of the destruction is almost inconceivable.
the fact that people make bombs that can kill millions of people is beyond belief, the fact that there are "laws" to govern killing is even more unbelievable.
the quote seems to encapsulate that feeling.
we have gone beyond our "natural" powers.
it is dangerous.thinking pragmatically about a nuclear arsenal and seeing the effects are two different things.
the quote takes in both the responsibility and the incompatability of the situation that the world is in.
im sorry if i am not being clear, but it is very hard to explain

that is almost exactly why i want to get this tattoo so much.,i dont want to forget
lucifers angel 05-30-07, 02:47 PM i was thinking about getting my eyebrow pierced but i heard a scare story so i changed my mind, i did have my tounge pierced and it went green, yes, i looked after it, i was just unlucky i guess.
EmptyForceOfChi 05-30-07, 04:17 PM No tattoos, no piercings.

i plan to get 1 or 2 tattoos when i am finished with building my body so they dont stretch out.
and yeah i have my ear pierced and it sure isnt a good idea to have an earing or other ring in while having a fight, i was very close to losing half my ear because of that mistake, i never wear the earing anymore for that exact reason.
peace.
Redefine91 05-30-07, 09:18 PM if they didn't permanently distort your earlobes I would get gauges in a heartbeat

I have one on my left thigh and some fools tell me it is a "girly" spot. W/E, it seems to have suited me well for many years. I got mine there because I was 15 and wanted to be allowed back in the house.
Mine is a 3x1 inch tribal design. It's better than it sounds :p
I'd rather put some nice art on my walls.
But that's just me.

I am the same. As is my husband.
Plus any loss or gain of weight as well as age tends to make tattoos be.. ermm.. different to what they originally were meant to look like. Imagine that tattoo when you are 70 years of age and wrinkled.:D
Exhumed 05-30-07, 10:57 PM Art on the walls compared to tatoos is most definitely like comparing apples to oranges.

I am getting Da Vinci's Vitruvius on my back...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v203/one_raven/Sk03daVinci.jpg
Probably my favourite picture. I have two copies, one repro the correct size, and another large wallhanging in my office, on cloth, about 6'x4'.
Before the advent of the Internet and Ebay, I used to peruse second hand bookshops for DaVinci artwork compilations most Saturday mornings, usually nursing a small hangover. I have two, one of his anatomical drawings, and one covering his paintings. Never did find a decent one of his inventions. Maybe I should resume my old hobby.
Anyway, done sympathetically, that could make an awesome tattoo.
Have you seen Agrippa's stab at the same, btw?

phlogistician 05-31-07, 04:50 AM To answer the original question, I have no tattoos nor piercings. I know a piercing would bug the shit out of me, having had a bit of metal embedded in me accidentally for a while.
Tattoo I nearly had. I was going to get one to disguise a surgical scar, but I didn't have the surgery (to pin a broken leg, I spent 5 months in plaster instead, because there wasn't enough bone at the bottom end of the break to screw into), so didn't need the disguise.
I somewhere have computer images of DaVinci notes if you're interested.

Cool, if you could upload somewhere, or maybe remember where you got them from and link? Cheers!
