View Full Version : corporate bullshit dribbler 06-18-03, 08:40 PM how many of you feel that you will not ever work for a company but will own your own? Jerrek 06-18-03, 08:51 PM I plan on creating my own companies. dribbler 06-18-03, 08:52 PM what type of companies do you plan on creating and are you doing anything besides education to further that at this time? Jerrek 06-18-03, 09:05 PM I'm in university doing a degree. I hope to do my post-graduate work for an MBA at Harvard Business School. I have a few ideas. Right now I am a tutor. I teach high school and other college students math, physics, and chemistry. I also teach smaller children computers and the Internet. I plan on expanding that to elderly people. I also want to start an Oracle consultation company. I'm Oracle qualified and pretty good with maintaining a database. I'm also thinking of a software company that write custom software based on your needs. I have a few ideas there already... Areas which desperately need better software. And later when I have money I'd also like to buy and lease houses. You know, buy one and then rent it out. If done right, you could make lots of money. I'm also interested in directional drilling and ground penetration radar systems. Particularly in third world countries where documents on existing underground utilities (such as water pipes and telco wires) are non existant. They have a serious need to document it, and that is where the GPR comes in. Directional drilling is drilling a sort of tunnel under a road to put utilities in, such as another telecom wire. (This kinda stuff fascinates me.) Shit man, there are so many ideas... so little time... The idea is to get a company up and running, and then hire people to do the work for you while you just get part of the profits. :) siledre 06-18-03, 09:48 PM Earth will be mine someday. dribbler 06-18-03, 09:54 PM The idea is to get a company up and running, and then hire people to do the work for you while you just get part of the profits. Never let this idea be your main focus. this is one of the reasons companies fail. if you have the insight to start it up, do not ever think that someone else will run it for you without running the risk of losing everything you initially put into it and then everything it has become. good luck with everything else. it is good to see someone with such focus and desire. wesmorrisbabe 06-18-03, 10:33 PM [Dribbler]: Nice thread. [Pictures siledre doing a "Muhahaha!" while wearing a cape and looking up into the dark, cloudy, sky as rain falls.] I'd like to be a business owner but lately, I've been thinking that I wouldn't like to own a restaurant in our hometown. It seems that we've become a socialist community. I'm kinda upset over a local law that has forced a non-smoking ban on all public establishments that serve prepared food, like restaurants and bars. It's ridiculous, IMHO, because: * The town in which we live is pretty sparse. * And the more important reason, to me, that this ban is ridiculous is that our local Enviromental Agency is not giving the owners any choice. It's simply going to be enforced, no questions asked. Some restaurant/bar owners are willing to comply as they are afraid of subjecting health risks to non-smokers, but other owners, especially those of local bars are outraged as they are afraid that they'll lose valuable customers. Anyhow, I guess the long and the short of it is that I'm not so much upset about the 'smoking/non-smoking debate' as I'm afraid that owning a restaurant wouldn't really be 'owning' in my hometown. Thaug 06-18-03, 11:04 PM I would like to own my own company. Maybe after I have saved up some I could rent out some apartments. NightFall 06-18-03, 11:24 PM i plan to open a nightclub in about 8 years. in other words, once i finish my current degree, get on my feet, then go back to school for business. lol. not going to give out too many details since it would be easy for someone to swipe up my idea and do it first with 8 years to spare... but keep an eye out.. NightFall's Cafe may be coming to town near you!:D sargentlard 06-18-03, 11:31 PM I plan to work myself...... as a town bike who everybody had a ride on....*wink wink*..... kmguru 06-18-03, 11:33 PM I'm kinda upset over a local law that has forced a non-smoking ban on all public establishments that serve prepared food, like restaurants and bars. Here is an idea: Find atleast 100 smokers with some money that they can survive without work for a year. Then make a club and go out seeking more smokers. Then puchase an area and make that your smoke city. Advertise for smokers to join you to form the new city....you get the idea. Smokers spend billions a year just on smokes. I am sure a small town can easily be setup.... kazakhan 06-18-03, 11:49 PM how many of you feel that you will not ever work for a company but will own your own? Having owned a business with a $250,000(AUS) turnover p/a, for the last 7-8 years my advice would be don't bother with retail the general public is too fickle. Then there's the regulation, licensing, tax conformance, employees etc, it's a freakin nightmare. If you get a foot in the door dealing only with other businesses is much more profitable & reliable. The easy money is in the stock & property markets IMHO. plasticwingsmelting 06-19-03, 08:39 AM this is my fuckin planet glaucon 06-19-03, 09:13 AM I want the third option: to start my own company and then become an asshole. Clothing in the 21 century is shit!! Rocawear, ecko. I've looked carefully and found phallic symbols in like every single ad they put out! Man some are sneeky the have this one ad in a magazine called complex, its for Nissan and it has the light that is shining on the hood and roof that’s shaped like the hourglass figure for a women. I guess that’s why they call cars "she's". When will people learn that this isn’t right. We got to focus on more important shit. Family friends... a hobby, anything except being consumers. I myself can admit that I but alot of clothing. New t-shirts ever month. Sometimes every few week, but at least they are good... no better clothing. Some clothing is... good I guess but i have yet to own it. That what I aim to make myself... then I wouldn’t be guilty of being just another consumer. I got tons of artistic talent but the title for it, the logo. I haven’t come to me. I was thinking of having it a Latin translation, first come up wit a name. Sorry this is kind of random thinking, hope u can understand it.. later Mucker 06-19-03, 12:59 PM Hey Jerrek, that is a good idea. I'm surprised you've posted it because somebody could steal it (there are some Dicks in the world)! The idea is to get a company up and running, and then hire people to do the work for you while you just get part of the profits. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Never let this idea be your main focus. No, you shouldn't. Plus what would you do with your now spare time??! I bet it would be wasted. [I'm] not going to give out too many details since it would be easy for someone to swipe up my idea Yes, that's why I'm surprised Jerrek posted his. I plan to work myself...... as a town bike who everybody had a ride on....*wink wink*..... That doesn't surprise me. Good idea SargentLard! I want the third option: to start my own company and then become an asshole. It's been done, by many people. I think what most people think too much about is how to get the money, and not enough about what they would do with it. There isn't much else to spend money on (once one is settled) except a house really. The money spent on a house (mortgage (mortar-gauge?)) also contributes to general lifestyle and the lifestyle of the family. I think people pay more for the area, and less for the house; crime rates, citizen make-up, etc. all contribue to how much money will be lost in the long-term, and lifestyle and stress etc. Bill gates has millions (or billions, whatever) of Dollars and i read last year that he was spending $20 million (I think) on a house that floats on water! it can travel etc (I think) but the point is that when one has so much money, there isn't much else to spend it on. All one really needs in life is a place to live, food and water, heating (etc) and cigarettes and Beer (some of us ;) ). Most of this can be afforded by a regular job (if two people are living together the costs dont really go up that much, but any expenses are halved). P.S There should have been a 'don't know/not sure' option for the poll. siledre 06-19-03, 02:38 PM Originally posted by plasticwingsmelting this is my fuckin planet hmmm, I don't see your name on it... :o :) Fafnir665 06-19-03, 02:42 PM I will have the title that no others have held before, and none other will hold until my death, for i will be loved by all equally, and that title shall be 'Undisputed ruler of the known universe', the known universe being earth and her satilites. I hope to do my post-graduate work for an MBA at Harvard Business School. I think a Master degree in your specialization is necessary before you do an MBA. Bachelor degrees are very broad and MBAs only teach you some of the business aspect. If you are to be a consultant, I don't see you having the right qualifications. Wow, drilling in the busy streets of cairo to loacte utilities. last time I checked, people performed test pits for utilities, or easier, they popped manholes and checked street construction plans. Are you familiar with overseas work, for example, do you plan on bidding on a US government contract under USAID or others and competing with hundreds of established large US firms, or do you dream that the overseas government might just pay you over their home grown engineers and USAID selection of contractor. You think wrong. Bachelor degrees are very broad and MBAs only teach you some of the business aspect. And the business aspect is what I want. If you are to be a consultant, I don't see you having the right qualifications. You don't know my skills, and you don't know my past employment, nor do you have my resume. What makes you an expert on my qualifications? So you want to be a tutor without the backing or support of an organized facility such as a school or university......Just a tutor.....Ok....start investigating prices of health insurance. Being a tutor in my spare time and earning $17 an hour is better than nothing. Poor you, because there is no shortage of those guys around. There is a shortage of good DBAs in the GTA. Don't pretend you know everything. ditto......I heard Cienna and Lucent technology just laid of everyone....still good luck to you in that business, and don't worry about the competition, none at all. Lucent specializes in hardware. I have never even heard of Cienna. I don't plan on going for the big and glamorous software. A simple, easy to use mediation platform for the telecommunications industry is a good start. It is certainly better than doing nothing and complaining to the rest of the world. Oh wow, that's a first too, dealing with renters and collecting your money aughta be real fun. Don't ever worry about the constant maintenance, court orders, evacuation, ect.... Hence, you go into a partnership. There are plenty of good partnerships of this type and I have a bit of experience in this field. Just because you don't know how to do something doesn't mean the rest of the people don't. Jerrek you are dreaming and some experience working for a civil engineering firm that do work overseas might show you the difficult ropes of getting work overseas. I don't plan on doing this in the United States or Canada. I have worked as an apprentice to a directional drilling company and GPR surveying company and have a bit of experience in this field. And that was in a third world country. I don't even think you know what I'm talking about here... And am I familiar with overseas work? Well, I'm a damn immigrant, so let me think.... YES. Now that's my favorite....Good luck to you getting robbed and screwed. Well I can't possibly do worse than you... kmguru 06-19-03, 09:41 PM Good debates.... There is a lot of demand for good Oracle DBAs. We need a few with security clearance but can not find any. There is a lot of GIS work is going on in India and am sure many other places. Ground RADAR seems a good area to work especially if you can develop DSP based software using hyperspectral technology. That has unlimited potential. |
