    hi,

in an effort to save energy, why dont they close down shopping malls and replace them with internet shopping malls. that will also save space and time ... i am talking in context of US ... i am sure same must be true for other countries ... what do you guys think?

Not necesserily a big saver, after all internet stores have storages too. Let's say I go to the mall and buy 10 different items, but online it would take 4 different websites with 4 extra shipping fees, that is energy cost, short of.

Hell, I just ordered filters for the vacuum cleaner and the shipping is 30% of the cost....

I think you'd need to create some big treadmills, with TV screens showing QVC in front of them, to exercise the shopping Zombies who frequent malls, or they'd just wander along roads, searching for things to stare at.

People like to shop because I guess it supplants the hunter/gatherer need in them. I hate to shop, because I have the urge to cut a swathe through the crowd with a Claymore, which I am not allowed to exercise.

We have 'Argos' in the UK, which is almost like you describe. There's a catalogue, phone ordering, a web site, and you can order in store, and it's kind of like a warehouse in town. A few years ago, a similar shop in the high street folded, so I guess the market can't bear too many shops like that.

    Market forces will decide ultimately.

But where would all the bored teens, wanting to get away from their 'rents go to hang out?

We can still have movie theaters ... but just that ... movies theaters; I am talking big change in what we think of shopping, there would be no physical shopping, groceries, clothing apparel, other stuff, retail markets etc. will be online. In other words, all those retail stores like Gap, Banana Republic, Tommy Hilfiger etc. will go away, the shopping complex space will be : A.) Either reclaimed by govt. for green stuff or B.) To build warehouse maybe of some kinds.

I don't know if this would be possible ...

And off course in place of malls, we can have parks, more green sights to look at ...

The internet is cutting into the regular malls in a big way. More than 300 billion dollars was spent online this year and that number grows every year.
