Sometimes it's as if Israelis would find it most desireable for the United States to carry out the "Final Solution" on all Mideastern opponents of Israel, beginning with the Palestinians - and pay for it both monetarily and in terms of the repercussions. Israelis should be more careful in their expressions - Israel has so much to learn as a nation in terms of diplomacy. When they realize they can't hide under America's skirt anymore (as the skirt becomes tatters, and the Lady Liberty retreats home) I hope they learn fast.

This could lead to another pre-empitive strike

According to this article, Iran and Syria are already drawing their ties closer towards eachother,...:

Iran, Syria Discuss Regional Developments, Iraq Crisis

DAMASCUS -- President Mohammad Khatami's special envoy Ali-Akbar Mohtashami, in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad here Monday discussed current developments in the region, particularly the Iraq crisis.

During the meeting, Mohtashami handed over President Khatami's message to his Syrian counterpart on key regional issues, the Iraqi and Palestinian crises in particular.

The two sides reviewed various aspects of the Iraqi crisis and voiced concerns over diverse impact of a probable U.S.-led military attack on Iraq in the region.

Mohtashami and Bashar al-Assad condemned the Zionist regime's policy to take advantage of the ongoing crises in the region in its favor to strongly suppress the defenseless Palestinian people, calling on the world community and international organizations to adopt strict measures to this effect, IRNA reported.

Mohtashami, an MP from Tehran and director general of the International Conference to Support Palestinian Intifada, voiced opposition to the outbreak of a new war in the region as well as U.S. unilateral policies and urged the world community to peacefully solve the Iraqi issue.

He called for settlement of international disputes only under the aegis of the United Nations.

Assad, for his part, referring to the deep-rooted ties between the two countries and called for further regular consultations and cooperation between Tehran and Damascus particularly under prevailing sensitive situation of the region.

He stressed the "important and effective" role played by the Islamic Republic and Syria in the settlement of regional crises and the Iraqi issue in particular.

Mohtashami arrived here Sunday night heading a delegation to discuss the Iraqi crisis with senior Syrian officials.

He is accompanied by Majlis deputy Hassan Qashqavi.

Bashar al-Assad and Mohammad Khatami in a telephone contact discussed the two countries' stances on key regional and international issues, especially the Iraq crisis.

Iran and Syria are against any attack on Iraq as it would cause further damage to the already deteriorated situation in the Persian Gulf

Even though I question that poll's validity, I have to say that only strengthens my argument about the advantage of low voting turnouts

Well, 92% out of 2600 individuals are in favor for the US to target Iran, Syria & Hezbollah following the war against Iraq? That’s not really that bad if asked to a handful of rightwing extremist, I would have expected between 120% to 180%.

I wonder what that poll would show if the question were Israel to target Iran, Syria and the Hezbollah, probably 1% ?

    Jhon Bolton

On May 6, 2002 US Under Secretary of State John Bolton gave a speech entitled "Beyond the Axis of Evil". In it he added three more nations to be grouped with the already mentioned "rogue states": Libya, Syria, and Cuba. The criteria for membership of this group was: "state sponsors of terrorism that are pursuing or who have the potential to pursue weapons of mass destruction (WMD) or have the capability to do so in violation of their treaty obligations". The speech was widely reported as an expansion of the original Axis of Evil. The allegation of Cuban WMD capability was particularly strenuously denied by the Cuban government, and disputed by former president Jimmy Carter who visited the country a week later after being briefed by US officials.
