I am having problems with my burner and need help. About a month ago I had alittle computer trouble and cleared everything of my computer. I had'nt thought anything of it until last week when I could not burn anything. My cd burner is not being read and when I try to burn anything it says there is no device detected. It is not the drive though because it works fine for anything else. A friend told me that I might of lost some burner software when I cleared my computer. Is this what is wrong? If so how can I fix it.

It sounds like you deleted your driver. The only thing you can do now is to a) go on the internet and find an appropriate driver for your burner, or b) reinstall the one found on a special CD that came with your computer. Not terribly difficult.

If that doesn't work...(which it should), then I guess you have no choice but to call up the manufacturer.

Thanks for the help. Being that my burner did not come with a cd I guess I will have to download a driver. Where could I do this at?

Well, I'm not all that computer savvy, myself - but I'm pretty sure all you have to do is go to the manufacturers site (like plextor.com if that's the brand your with)and under downloads, find a suitable driver for your CD burner. Then install, and voila!

Another *possibility* is that the cables connecting your CD burner to the rest of the system is loose, or off altogether. But I highly doubt that as it's working for other things.

I wouldn't really worry. The driver should solve all of your problems.

    At first check the cables...
Then if you've got Win2000 or WinXP, uninstall your burner (just uninstall the driver !) and then click on refresh : your Windows should find the appropriate driver.
Else follow Elbaz's advices : get on the web.

    Good luck
(hope your burner is not k.o.)
