Australia the most pro-war: poll
Australia is the country most in favour of military action against Iraq, an international poll of 39 countries has found.
The Gallup International survey, released on Tuesday, found 68 per cent of Australians backed some sort of military action against Iraq.
However, 56 per cent were in favour only if the United Nations supported it, while just 12 per cent of Australians supported unilateral action by the United States and its allies.
Some 27 per cent of Australian respondents said they would not support war under any circumstances - five per cent didn't know.
In Australia, levels of support for war outstripped even the US, where the poll showed 67 per cent supported some type of military action

The Marquis 02-10-03, 07:07 PM *shrugs* I'm not surprised. I have no faith in polls anyway.
It could simply mean the more Australians are honest about how they feel than those in other countries, too.
Where the fuck is slaveboy? He's supposed to be entertaining us.
i pissed him off so much that he has me on ignore.
That's an achievement. If he had all the people who pissed him off on his ignore list, he'd never see much of this forum.
So he must have only a select few on there.

Hesomagari 02-13-03, 04:33 AM Unfortunately, most Australians think that the sun shines outta bush's ass.
Its all the sun. Fries their brains. :D :D :D
Makes them very good front line war fodder, as I'm sure Bush will recognise....
Asguard 02-13-03, 04:37 AM hey u found it

Unfortunately, some Americans think they know what Australians think. It's the lack of sun... no brain development.

Now there's a logical statement.
Hesomagari 02-13-03, 04:18 PM :D :D :D Marquis..,
Considering that my family lives in Australia, and I live in New Zealand, I just might know a bit more than you do.
You too, can make sweeping assumptions, actually.
And my comment was in jest. It's a local joke between New Zealanders and Aussies, which is why no Australian here "bit".
But then you might not have known that either. I was going for a rise, but didn't expect it to come from another direction. But on the other hand, I can't expect someone, possibly an American, to understand local humour.
(Or spell the word correctly either) :LOL
Or are you going to take that as an insult too???

oh dearie me! the intrigue is simply scandalous, my child! these insidious anti gay polls will be the death of me! (i know all about rigging polls!)
haha
each assuming the other is american?
Hesomagari 02-13-03, 04:47 PM Yeah Spookz, just figured that Marquis pins the Aussie tag to the breast.
Gotta wonder though, after all, no self respecting realAussie would want to be known as a "Marquis".... still doesn't alter the fact that it is a local joke, well known amongst oz and nz friends...
And the most like person to misunderstand that would be an american.
The Marquis 02-13-03, 07:02 PM My response wasn't exactly serious either, Hesomogari. I would have thought such a "sweeping generalisation" should have been fairly obvious, but apparently not.
Such humour as "most Australians think the sun shines out of bushes ass" is meant to bite, joke or not. You got bit back, and now you're whinging about it. Fairly typical from your side of the Tasman... oh, am I generalising again? "Twas merely a joke, you know. Well known on both sides of the Tasman.
Considering that my family lives in Australia, and I live in New Zealand, I just might know a bit more than you do.
I can see we have another logical one here. My grandma lives in Berlin, and I'm an expert on French-German political relationships as a result?
My apologies for assuming you were anything other than a sheep-shagger. Oh... Now you won't be insulted by that, will you? Of course not.
Hesomagari 02-13-03, 07:26 PM marquis :LOL
and now you're whinging about it. No, not whining about it. Just returning your "compliment".
After all, who was it who was so vehemently whining about your fellow australian's feelings? You marquis....and who was it who made the sweeping assumption that I was an American - at least in my first assumption I put the word "possibly" but you in your Lady marquis turned up nose stance allowed no such doubt.....
Such gentility to call someone a sheep-shagger.... just the sort of comment I'd expect from someone with fried brains...
Oh if forgot. That was that a joke too???
[/sarcasm ]
The Marquis 02-13-03, 08:38 PM Of course it was a joke. One "well known" on both sides of the Tasman. You mean you didn't know that Australians and New Zealanders refer to each other as "sheep shaggers"?
Any time you'd like to stop "kidding around", you just let me know.
My apologies for taking you as an American. It was an assumption on my part, I now know otherwise.
Hesomagari 02-13-03, 09:13 PM I've stopped kidding. I bow to your all knowing and pontifical inerrancy...
Oh, and no, I won't use any further cliche's or say anything more in reply. After all, you only want replies to load in the bazooka, and return as twisted ammunition....
apologies not needed, since I;m sure they are point scoring material, rather than honestly expressed sentiment.
What a waste of my and your time...
kirstykiwi 02-14-03, 12:32 AM Oh Marquis is an AUSTRALIAN!!
That explains quite a bit re: the Brain Hologram System.
We make allowances then. LOL
After all, who was it who was so vehemently whining about your fellow australian's feelings? You marquis....and who was it who made the sweeping assumption that I was an American - at least in my first assumption I put the word "possibly" but you in your Lady marquis turned up nose stance allowed no such doubt.....
The Marquis is male, you twit.
My apologies for taking you as an American. It was an assumption on my part, I now know otherwise.
Please. Don't diss my country. As bad as we are, we ain't Kiwis. :)
The Marquis 02-14-03, 12:38 AM Now, see how het up we all get when someone insults your country?
Judging by your own reactions to my kiwi comments, are you now overly surprised the US ambassador made some comments about the opposition? Starting to get it maybe?
Here endeth the lesson.
Twits.
*edit - oh, and Xev... I'm a pro-american asshole. No offence intended ;)
Uh oh, we both called them "twits". Next Adam will be accusing me of being you, or you of being me, or both of us of being the resurrected Marquis de Sade.
*Mutters "shit" and starts flushing the Spanish Fly down the toilet, just in case*
kirstykiwi 02-14-03, 12:53 AM Aww,
Come on guys.
NZ will become the 7th state of Aussi in the future I believe, so be nice. ;)
The Marquis 02-14-03, 12:57 AM Or maybe the 8th, seeing as we already have 7. Or how about the 52nd state of the US ;)
Hesomagari 02-14-03, 01:29 AM XevThe Marquis is male, you twit. How remarkable. He behaves like a argumentative hissy female.
Nono, Kirsty, New Zealand will never be the 8th state of Australia. We are not that stupid.
Couldn't give a stuff if any of you insult New Zealand.
Such a typical Marquis piece of drivel this: Judging by your own reactions to my kiwi comments, are you now overly surprised the US ambassador made some comments about the opposition? Starting to get it maybe?
I bow down to (s)he who pontifically knows all, and will brook no opinion than her/his own, and to whom any difference of opinion from de Marquis, is merely a measure of the depth of insanity.
Thank goodness we don't have Marquise de Sades, or any other sorts in this country...least ways, not any I would know.
Come to think of it, Bob Jones might come close. But he's ditched out to Sydney anyway. Birds of a feather, flock together....
kirstykiwi 02-14-03, 04:18 AM Marquis,
Oops, LOL.
My partner does tell me to stay off this site and stick to the Olivia Newton-John fan club!!!
Asguard 02-14-03, 06:54 AM 250 000 turned up to a peace rally expected to get 5000 in melb today:D
hypewaders 02-14-03, 07:02 AM Fantastic! GO Oz!
Dudeyhed 02-14-03, 08:39 AM that original survey must be a total load of shit. I dont remember a time when the general attitute was ever like that. The only ppl that actually take America's word without question are those uneducated stupid fools who reckon Bush is a god and Saddam is a devil. Its probably more like two devil.

the 2nd pdf has the relevant stats. email karen.schwenshen@roymorgan.com
if you wanna dispute shit. there might have been a discrepancy.........
Asguard 02-15-03, 01:19 AM MIGHT?????????
there is another servy floting around here saying that 1/3 of aussies are against war even WITH the UN
but you want proof look at the peace protest in melborune to start with, the fact that the back benches are worried about howard and the fact that costello hasnt been seen for months and you have a pritty fair indercation that australia is AGAINST this INSPITE of The Marquis
Asguard 02-15-03, 01:22 AM B\W i would like to see the questions, the lead up question, the sample size and the demographic serveyed if you have them
The Marquis 02-15-03, 02:03 AM Thank you for the compliment, Asguard. I'm sure you won't understand what I mean by that, but thank you anyway.
Asguard 02-15-03, 02:09 AM interesting
you like being a stone age moron?, then good luck to you, but dont even TRY to bring the country i love's name down with YOU
i am rather tired of you touting that the right wing is the majority and when POVED wrong you just go you dont want to be a sheep
well its a good thing the left is the majority then isnt it?
i find it strange that you let fly when i say im against true free speach (because that intailes defimation), yet you are against democrasy
whats the worse crime?

We have differing opinions on the nature of what is bringing the country down. I'm not overly nationalistic, except in the sense that I was fortunate enough to be born in a country which allows me to be what I am.. and for you to be what you are. For that reason (Not only for that reason, but it will suffice for now) I am proud to be Australian. You don't love your country, Asguard. You love what you would like it to be. As do I.
You think you have power? You do. I admit it freely. But in your case, it comes not in yourself, but in those you bring with you. You are not strong enough to take down the pack leader, whether it be Howard, Bush or whoever else you have a problem with. So you find friends, you find like-thinkers, and together you bring him down. Lions beset by jackals. Lions replaced with jackals, in the long term.
I don't require luck, Asguard. Luck is for people who lack the will to make their own place. I'll take it when it comes, I don't rely on it.
i am rather tired of you touting that the right wing is the majority and when POVED wrong you just go you dont want to be a sheep
I don't believe I ever said the right was in the majority. I have no belief in majority opinion. It proves nothing more than the herd knowing where to get a free feed. The herd cares little for long term survival.
well its a good thing the left is the majority then isnt it?
Ah... no.
i find it strange that you let fly when i say im against true free speach (because that intailes defimation), yet you are against democrasy

Now here, for the first time, you've given me something to think about. Not in the sense of free speech... All you're telling me here is that those who make law are too weak to be able to stand up in the the face of insult... they run to mummy instead. They don't fight - they cower behind the skirts of law. Insult is the best way for someone to force another to think, in terms of the real world. In an ideal world, we would not be required to insult. Those in this world we would think of insulting, in my world we would argue with, knowing they had the capacity to argue their own stance without resorting to mob mentality, as you and others such as you do. If I am truly insulted, by someone who I know to have intelligence, I will think of my stance in relation to their insult. I would ask myself if their insult contained truth.
Am I against democracy? No, not really. When I think of democracy, I think of people, able to think, advancing an opinion based on that thought. I would like to think that opinion is an individual thing, influenced only by the self and not popular agreement. What I would like to think, and what reality is, however, are not the same thing.
I am not thinking "The English are too many!"
I am wondering how to take them down.
Asguard 02-15-03, 02:53 AM actully the laws i was thinking about are not designed to protect those in power but those without
small companys, private inderviduals are protected from the big media throwing lies in order to discredit an opinion and a PERSON
THAT is what defimation is about
The Marquis 02-15-03, 02:58 AM Yes... the need to protect those who have been defamed by the stupid, operating under the assumption that the general public are stupid enough to believe and form opinions without knowing all the facts to begin with.
Asguard, do me a favour. Read "The Fountainhead", or "Atlass Shrugged" and see what Ayn Rand has to say about you and those like you. It gives a better opinion than what I am either capable of saying, or have the space to say here.
You won't, I know. But I feel the obligation to at least try to enlighten you, if only a little bit.
