    thats specious reasoning

im sure a 25 year old monk would beat a 80 year old monk, not neccasarily every time, but almost always.

yes, on average, I am sure I would kick a 80year old monk's ass. the only way they could beat me is by tricking me. so unless we only had one fight, and I was unlucky enough to fall for a trick, I would probably win.

just because old people are better at concentrating on many things simultaneously, does not mean they are going to be better in a fight. moreover, older people simply cannot handle the physical abuse as well. besides, I don't think shaolin kung fu is very practical, I would put modern tae kwon do above it any day.

no actually thats completely false, the older the monk is the more powerfull he is, you obviously havent been to train in a shaolin temple, or havent got alot of knowlefge in Qigong, and experience within internal martial arts,

i would rather a 20 year old monk fight me, than a 60 year old one, thats for sure,

the elder monks have the most amazing abilities in the temples.

again another person talking about something when they have no real life experience in the matter,

i study in the only real shaolin temple in europe, i have first hand experience when it comes down to shaolin monks, the older they gett he more powerfull they are, you are comparing the old man down your street, to a warrior elder monk who has trained every day of his life for over 12 hours per day for 50 odd years, they are immensly powerfull, if i cannot even knock a monk down with my hardest strikem (and i hit hard and have been a fighter for over 17 years) then i doubt you could, with no internal or external training, i train everyday for combat, and i doubt yo do, so how would you defeat one, when i cant even knock one to the ground when he lets me hit him without even gaurding,

    peace,

well, there are two reasons I am confident. 1. I am have a fair amount of training, though not a black belt in either of the 3 arts I have studied. 2. I am 6'10", I can consistently beat 20-something black belts because of, mostly, my reach.

where did you hit said monk? it is extremely easy to withstand a single body blow. were you wearing gloves?

I understand what you mean about being older, and more fined tuned. I would also rather fight a 20 year old monk than a 50-60 year old monk, but 80 is pretty far up there.

    first,

belts mean nothing, ive been training for over 17 years, and still consider myself a white belt, the coloured belts are for children, they like bright colours it helps draw in custom for Mc dojos, a sense of achievement for attaining a nice new belt,

your reach and hieght mean nothing in real life situations, all of those statistics should be kept in the ring, with the other weekend warrior sportsmen,

im not bieng harsh or nasty just honest,

and yeah even 80 man, i have trained with people over 70 plenty of times, and i cannot overpower them even when grappling, and i am a big guy aswell, there grip is like iron clamping down, due to chin na training, and stone lock training, also stone ball training, shi suo, and shi siu i believe it is in pinyin,

we do various iron body methods of training at the temple, where havent i hit the elder monks?

the balls, (yes the balls as hard as i can kick)
the stomach, palm strikes, punches, chops, kicks, elbows
the head, again all of the above strikes,
the legs, with kicks of my own,

dont think its a 1 way thing, i take hits aswell, (not in the balls i cant do that) and thats just some unnarmed combat, move onto with weapons, how about wooden planks and thicks ticks, smashed over there legs, arms, bodies, heads, knees, necks,

people think shaolin is fake, they havent seen ti for themselves, dont confuse shaolin gong fu, with wushu wich you see in the movies and on TV,

shaolin gong fu is as real as it gets, just look it up for yourself, and if your lucky enough to visit a temple i suggest you pay them a visit, there very open to guests and have great hospitality to travelers, i spend some time at the brixton temple after hours, when its not open witht he monks, training closed door with them.

i train in boxing, systema, muay thai, taiji, qigong, northern and southern style gong fu, ninjutsu/ninpo, and shaolin gong fu, i dont just stck to shaolin i adopt many styles also my own "freestyles", but i have to say personally from experience shaoling ong fu is the best fighting system, (if you have enough time and dedication to accomplish it fully),

and yes still the elder monks are the most powerfull, and fastest, even most flexible, maybe watch a documentary on it, or read up on google, rind respectable sites about real warrior monks, avoid any wushu sites,

I never said I bought into the belts, thats why I only made the distinction of black and no black, as the rest have little to no meaning. however, most schools (at least the ones I have been a part of) do have tough requirements to be a black belt.

over 70s and 80s are two different things. the rate at which the body deteriorates is somewhat exponential. like I said, I would not want to fight one in his 60s.

I have not done any iron body stuff, but you say they take full strength elbows and palm strikes, unguarded, to the head? are there designated targets on the head? it seems like you would cause brain damage that way. no matter how much you train, you brain can still become mush =]. what about hits to the jaw? surely you could break their jaw or teeth with a hard blow.

    there is actualy,

    iron teeth,
    iron jaw,
    iron skull,

    methods of training,

a shaolin monk will hit sundried bricks over his head atleast 100 per day in iron skull training, also take hand chops tot h head repeatedly for periods of times from other monks, (all from an early age of say about 4-5) also get a big heavy bag filled with sand, and 2 monks will pick him up in battering ram position, and ram his skull against the bag for up to an hour at a time,

also iron neck, where monks hang themselves for minuets at a time,

many other iron methods are used, you would be supprised at how tugh a monk can get, just about all bodyparts are harderned over the years, maybe the eyes and nose are the only vulnerable parts, they even take spear thrusts tot here neck, and spin the whole bodywieght in big spikes, many many amazing feats its really someting you have to see with your own 2 eyes man,

i will try to gather some info,

and the only shaolin monk who isable to perform 1 finger zen in the world, is over 80, there is a certain monk who lives in china, he hasnt slept in over 50 years, he sits upright and goes into deep meditation every night, he also is over 80 and teaches martial arts, and is alot more powerfull grip wise and energy wise than his younger training partners and students, there is a women in china who teaches taiji, she is 107 years old, she is nimble on her toes, and her hair hasnt even gone grey yet, she actualy defeated a yougner women in sparring, and as she uses others bodywieght and energy against them, she can over power younger people,

i have there names somewhere on old subtitled videos, from china, i will fidn them out,

    peace,

you are so blinded by propaganda, and your own mind, that I pity you. I wish I had a chance to show you what a crock of shit that iron body stuff is, but I hardly have time to sleep lately. by the way, your avatar shows just how much you buy into the romanticization of martial arts, and have lost touch with what it means to really fight.

just a quick question, these bricks, they break, right? have you ever tried hitting them over the head, hard, with something that does not break and has a modulus of elasticity greater than 100Gpa (in other words, very rigid)? I know you haven't, otherwise you would be messaging from prison for killing him.

I am not saying that they can't fight, I am simply saying that iron body training is a flim flam.

That is an interesting article. I agree that an old martial artist, provided they have been training all their life, and don't have alzheimer's or something, could win any battle with some young punk, probably before the kid even realized he wanted to fight. Intelligence is more powerful than brute force.

??? In a one-on-one combat situation? I would question that assertion.

Do you have any evidence to show to prove that opinion?

Well, if your opponent was real strong, but had no knowledge of how to fight, and you were a quarter his strength, but knew how to kill a man with only your pinky....

Combat is won or lost before it even begins. The one martial artist I know is only 45, but with his grey hair, few teeth, limp and cane, he looks to the casual observer like a fragile old man. However, his forearms are like steel cables, with his cane he could flip you upside down, and he can kick straight up over his head. With all this ability, he cannot even touch his teacher, who is in his 60's. Someone like him is always prepared for fighting, with hidden and not so hidden weapons. My friend is always prepared to escape from handcuffs and locks, and often carries an extendable baton or knife, although he needs none. The reflexes that come from training allow people like him to defend and attack at the same time, never meeting a blow head on, but redirecting the force against the opponent. Before this even happens, he is always watching the situation and aware of his surroundings.

This is the kind of intelligence I mean, not that a computer programmer can beat a dumb thug just because he's smarter.

How come you never hear of 150-200 year old monks? They are subject to the same aging as everyone else, even if they can stave it off a bit longer.
