View Full Version : best film soundtrack
Im looking for suggestions of good film soundtracks, so I ask to you: which are your favorites and why? I loved the requiem for a dream and donnie darko soundtracks, so those would be my suggestions if you havent already checked them out.
Brian Foley 06-11-05, 06:19 PM I liked the soundtrack to " Liquid Sky " , it really complimented the off beat mood of the movie . The soundtrack to " Dawn Of The Dead " by Italian group The Goblins was inventive .
Crimson_Scribe 06-11-05, 07:34 PM I'm a big fan of the 'Lord of the Rings' soundtrack, and everything done by Danny Elfman.
cosmictraveler 06-11-05, 07:43 PM The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Somewhere In Time
The Way We Were
The Rose
Easy Rider
Meet Joe Black
Dr. Zchivago
DarkEyedBeauty 06-11-05, 09:28 PM Empire Records
The Matrix
Queen of the Damned (Though the movie sucked)
Drive Away off the Lemony Snickett soundtrack is good. Actually, if you're into instrumentals, the whole soundtrack is good. I'll reiterate that Empire Records and The Matirx were both awesome soundtracks.
Run Lola Run was a good too, if you like European Techno.
Silent Serenity 06-12-05, 05:24 AM The Moulin Rouge 2.
Thersites 06-14-05, 04:47 AM One of the interesting things about movie sound tracks is the things composers could get away with: Bernard Hermann could write what would be regarded as avant-garde in a concert hall, but because it was a sound-track no-one bothered to make a fuss.
Fight Club
* Finding the bomb
sargentlard 06-14-05, 08:34 PM K-pax (I liked the movie)
Amelie
Garden State
24 hour party people
Tristan 06-14-05, 11:47 PM Definitely K-Pax.... however the Soundtrack to Solaris (Soderberg's release with Clooney) was intensely awesome... it accented the movie in everyway possible and i even heard one of the tracks used in a War of The Worlds trailer.
Definitely Solaris, hands down.

Pink Floyd - The Wall
The Blues Brothers
Nightmare Before Christmas
Little Shop of Horrors
The Color Purple
Cowboy BeBop
Perfect 06-25-05, 10:22 AM Well, Pink Floyd - more and Obscured by clouds are swell.
Also, Joby Talbots pieces in the hitchikers guide to the galaxy have balls.
Didn't Mike Patton make some soundtrack work?
Can't remember.
If you do, elaborate.
fadeaway humper 06-27-05, 05:50 PM Kansas City
Sagebrush 06-28-05, 02:21 PM "Blade Runner" by Vangelis. It think it was Oscar-quality, but one section wasn't original. Also, Vangelis had just gotten an Oscar for "Chariots of Fire".
spidergoat 06-28-05, 03:09 PM Dead Man, with soundtrack by Neil Young.
The Charmer 06-29-05, 05:50 AM Dependes on what you're after, of course, but for a quality score-style OST try 'Meet Joe Black'.
Chick flick with a beautiful soundtrack.
Fathoms 07-21-05, 01:31 AM Stigmata
Kill Bill
Sal-Man 09-02-05, 10:27 PM The soundtrack to Reservoir Dogs is definitely one of my favorites... just my 2 cents
Fathoms 09-02-05, 10:28 PM Stigmata
Kill Bill
Donnie Darko
Dazed and Confused
The sountrack to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Hapsburg 09-03-05, 02:18 AM Halloween. Awesomery in its very creepiest form.
O Brother where art thou has excellent bluegrass (not country) music.
Thomas Crown Affair (the newer one, i havent seen the old one)
NightFall 09-03-05, 12:12 PM Queen of the Damned does have a great soundtrack. Probably because so many bands worked together. Soundtrack makes up for the movie. which is sad.. when will they ever get an anne rice movie right? -sighs-
Little Nicky has a good soundtrack too, although some of the best songs in the movie arn't on the soundtrack.
and this probably isnt what your looking for and im not sure if you can buy it.. but i LOVE the music in Oceans11/12..

Starship Troopers
The Last of the Mohicans
Hunt for the red October (a fabulous opening track! :) )
James Bond-The Living Daylights
kenworth 09-03-05, 12:58 PM Whats cheesy about the soundtrack from Last of the Mohicans? :)
maybe cheesy isnt the right word.kinda obviously epic, makes me weep though.
Faerynght 09-03-05, 05:32 PM Music from the motion picture soundtrack Until the End of the World. It is amazing.
The Goose 09-03-05, 06:48 PM pretty much anything danny elfman did. That guy is a genius
orestes 09-03-05, 11:10 PM The score to the Lord of the Rings films, hands down. Howard Shore did a hell of a job, the music was just superb and epic.
Requiem For A Dream ( darren Aranofsky ) takes the cake. I think it may be one solid piece but I never did the research. Its the best soundstrack without songs that people recognize and it definitely makes the movie one of the top ten ever.
Trainspotting is good for older drug pop.
