According to the BLS payroll jobs data,January 2001 - January 2006, the U.S. economy created 1,050,000 net new private sector jobs and 1,009,000 net new government jobs for a total five-year figure of 2,059,000. Bush' Boom years.

Between 1983 and 1991 (the years when 18 years old of 2001 an 2010 were born) there were roughly 3.2 millions of births per year, i.e. roughly 30 millions reached working age of 18 in 2001-2010. Also, approximately 1 million of emigrants come legally to USA each year. Let's say only 450,000 of those need a job. 30+4=34 millions.

Mortality rate is roughly 2,500,000/year or roughly 23 millions in 9 years. In the roughest approximation, 34-23=11 millions - maximum size of "new" (legal) labor.

Since recession started roughly 8 millions of jobs were lost. Adding all the numbers: 11 -2 + 8 = 17 millions of jobs. To be on the safe side, let's make that number 14 millions. That's as of Jan 2010. Each additional year would add roughly 1 millions to the totals.

By the end of the term Obama economy should create roughly 17 millions of jobs for the guy to have a chance. Medium war is the only option to achieve that.
