The Pew Research Center has released the results of its polling on what problems the American public deems most important. The economy, jobs, and terrorism prevention were far and away the top concerns. Global warming ranked dead last and, while it's been ranked at the bottom for years, it actually dropped ten points further this year.

I'd venture to say that passing cap and trade would be political suicide.

So apparently we are being told that the federal government should first address improving the economy, and only afterwards - after the economy is improved - take on global trade, financial sector regulation, health care costs, immigration, deficit reduction, energy sources and costs, the military, the "environment", taxes, and so forth.

In more detail, we see that social security is to be handled first, and middle class taxes later. That Medicare is to be fixed first, and health care costs addressed afterwards if we have time.

What an amazing lack of information is spread out in all that incoherent number crunching. Somebody put a lot of work into that, and the only thing an actual policy maker could do with it is hit "delete".

Obviously, people are more concerned with things that have an immediate effect on their lives.

there is nothing we can really do about global warming even if the US of A didnt emmit 1 molicule of co2 all it would do is slow down climate change thats it... it would happen weather we were here or not unless we can create a machine to take all the co2 out of the air all that would happen is we would be thrown to an ice age

We can sequester CO[sup]2[/sup]. In any case, slowing it down would be a significant effect.

Here is thing with these lists, the over simplify. A lot of these things are interconnected, related to each other. For instance, heatlhcare is directly related to government spending and debt. In order to control entitlements, it is critical to fix healthcare. Healthcare also is tied to jobs, the country starts treating 40 million more patients, they are going to need new hospitals and facilities, and more healthcare professionals. Reduced healthcare costs decreases the cost of US goods and services making the US more attractive to foriegn and domestic investment thereby improving the economy.
