    Err.. what?
Is your title supposed to read: "What if we threw out both god and the devil from our thinking?"

God and Satan are inside each of us. The problem is that Abrahamism's monotheistic model of the human spirit is too simple to be of much help in guiding our behavior. Every thought, impulse and deed falls somewhere on a pathetic one-dimensional scale between Good and Evil.

Jung tell us, based upon the much richer pantheons of the traditional polytheistic religions, that our spirit has 23 dimensions. Some days you are the King/Queen, some days you are the Hunter, some days you are the Lover, some days you are the Warrior, etc. Problems arise when you let yourself be guided by the wrong component of your spirit on the wrong day.

If your spouse comes home in tears because of a disaster at work and needs you to be the Healer, but you've had your own bad day and insist on being the Reveler, labels like Good and Evil and invocations of God and Satan aren't going to be of any use and will just make both of you sadder and angrier. This is why Judaism, Christianity and Islam regularly inspire their communities to orgies of hatred and violence. Jung pointed out that the wars among the Christian nations were the bloodiest in human history.

What you (both) need to do is call upon the deep well of resources inside yourself and find the right one for the occasion. Maybe you'll discover that calling upon your inner Terpsichore and spending the night dancing will both heal and entertain.

Religion is nothing but a collection of metaphors, and metaphors can be very useful. The problem with monotheistic religion is that the collection is too small.
