Didn't American troops stage from the UK for WWI? At least partially, AFAIK. NATO was after WWII - 1949.
Yes but I’m pretty sure they all left afterwards, after WW1 the USA became isolationist and Churchill had to got to a lot of trouble to coax the US into aiding Britain fight the Nazi’s, only the fact the Nazi U boats were targeting US merchant ships off the American coast and after Japans attack on Peal Harbour , the Nazi’s declared war on the US. The Yanks had bases all over Western Europe after WW2, If not I’d be calling you Comrade Dywyddyr now.
