Where is Invert, for example?
He last posted over 9 months ago (December 14th 2008).
Why aren't replacement moderators installed?
Who is monitoring the affected subforums?
Thanks!

Orleander

the only think he mods by himself is Art & Culture. I'm sure if a post is reported there, he is notified. But who really cares if people get into a flame fest over how wonderful you think Rollerball was.

Enmos

I just think it's weird that some moderators don't appear to come here anymore but are still in place.

Goofyfish: last post back in April.
Tristan: last post back in March.

I figure they are like cops. Some you see every day on patrol and some have desk duty back at the office and only come out when needed.

Hmm I don't think it was intended for them to stay away that long.

Maybe they just review posts and don't actually post any more, i.e., lurk.

sandy
09-22-09, 08:05 AM
I doubt they still lurk. If they're gone for more than a month they should not be a mod.
If we could choose a new mod, who would you guys pick? I don't know enough about all the new peeps to even have an opinion.

Then they are not moderating.

Makes you wonder why we have some many sockpuppets j/king. Seriously though, some moderators could view the forum without logging in to see if there is anything worth moderating, or they could in fact be extremely busy from time to time. I do understand that perhaps long term non-actives should possible be demoted back to normal user, but only if they were likely to misuse their powers at some junction point in the future. (i.e. selling their username on Ebay so a normal member could spy on the moderator subforum etc)

Actually it would be interesting to see how much people would offer.... Who would start the bidding?

Socks should be banned. Immediately. Would anyone actually sell their name on Ebay? Does anyone actually care that much to even bother with it? Wow... If so, they need a life.

that's what I thought. I'm gonna go to ebay and see if anyone is currently selling a name they use on a forum

Ok, but I cannot believe that in nine months time no moderation was needed whatsoever.
I think Invert may have just left altogether. Which would leave the Art&Culture subforum unattended.
I haven't checked whether or not the absence of Goofy and Tristan leave any subforums unattended, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Nah, Goofy's duties are covered by Hype, but Tristan's sub-forae of Earth Science, SciFi & Fantasy and General Science & Technology don't seem to be covered.

(That may explain the long-running thread on the Earth being a living growing creature not being cesspooled :D).

can't Stryder, James R and Plazma moderate those areas? I was under the impression that admins could moderate any section.

If moderators are not replaced more subforums will become unattended eventually.
At any rate, I think all subforums should be covered. You would't go along with just partial police presence in a city either, would you? You know what happens to sections where there is no police?

I've moderated very loosely-moderated forums. It's fun. You don't worry about offending anyone and can say pretty much whatever you want. There are still flame wars but not any more than here.

We do indeed moderate those areas when necessary. admittedly you'll find some quaint posts in those absentee subforums however it requires some serious code of conduct to be breached or alot of noise to be created in their for us to necessarily notice. The main reason for this is alas we do not read everything in the subforums, sometimes it's time related, perhaps it's a long post perhaps it's a particular poster notorious for posting gibberish. In any sense we'd obviously appreciate any "report" messages should such subforums go awry.

DESIRED POSITION: Company's President or Vice President. But seriously, whatever's available. If I was in a position to be picky, I wouldn't be applying here in the first place.

EDUCATION: Yes.

LAST POSITION HELD: Target for middle management hostility.

SALARY
: Less than I'm worth.

MOST NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENT: My incredible collection of stolen pens and post-it notes.

REASON FOR LEAVING: It sucked.

HOURS AVAILABLE TO WORK: Any.

PREFERRED HOURS: 1:30-3:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL SKILLS?: Yes, but they're better suited to a more intimate environment.

MAY WE CONTACT YOUR CURRENT EMPLOYER?: If I had one, would I be here?

DO YOU HAVE ANY PHYSICAL CONDITIONS THAT WOULD PROHIBIT YOU FROM LIFTING UP TO 50 LBS?: Of what?

DO YOU HAVE A CAR?: I think the more appropriate question here would be "Do you have a car that runs?"

HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY SPECIAL AWARDS OR RECOGNITION?: I may already be a winner of the Publishers Clearing house Sweepstakes.

DO YOU SMOKE?: On the job no, on my breaks yes.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE DOING IN FIVE YEARS?: Living in the Bahamas with a fabulously wealthy dumb sexy blonde super model who thinks I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread. Actually, I'd like to be doing that now.

DO YOU CERTIFY THAT THE ABOVE IS TRUE AND COMPLETE TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE?: Yes. Absolutely.

Actually, this is my specialty. I belong to that subspecies referred to as telemarketers, direct marketers, list brokers. etc.

I have heard, in a small bar, from this cute blond chickie (of all the gin joints in all the world, why did she have to walk into this one) that one could get upwards of $10.00 per name and credit card number...

Now, who can hack? Ready set, go!

Seriously, that is what a primo list including CC numbers goes for on the black market, although $2-$3 is more typical. Or so I've been told...
