To be honest, I'm not sure what to make of this:

http://bdhilling.wordpress.com/files/2009/09/afpakwar.jpg (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/07/AR2009090702403.html)

I haven't been reading the Washington Post lately, aside from the odd Toles cartoon, for personal reasons, so I don't know when that banner first showed up. In looking for an ABC News/Washington Post survey, I came across the above-pictured article by Karen DeYoung.

I mean, our endeavors in Pakistan aren't a surprise to anyone, but what would be the implications of transforming our outlook from "part of the war in Afghanistan" to "the AfPak War"?

AfPak=Afghanistan and Pakistan war

the war in Afghanistan/Pakistan is constant, its not really a transfer, just naming it the right names and w/ right labels.

Blurring the lines of rationality to reflect a manufactured reality

It seems like reasonable nomenclature to me, though I doubt the administration will use it publicly.

Maybe Pakistan has oil?

No, which shows the stupidity of the whole the US-is-doing-it-all-for-oil mentality that infests the Left.

Maybe Pakistan has oil? Some, but mostly just pipeline routes and ocean frontage and geographical position between Iran and India and nuke-buttressed military leverage against the vast Central Asian fields (gas, minerals, etc - not only oil) in the Caspian basin and behind the Himalayas.

Take Counte's advice: Only a few fringe leftists think that kind of thing is important any more, since the days of the Great Game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Game) ended with Ronnie Reagan's triumph over the Soviet Union, and you don't want to be a fringe leftist, do you?

That's not what I said, Ice. Why don't you go back to lying and making claims you can't back up. It suites you better.

Then I apologize. Tone is tough to detect on this thing...
