I must be something or the other, but just can't seem to see what appeal does this game have for people??? It is boring as hell, pretty similar to watching daytime soapoperas.

Why is this game a huge seller??? If anyone of you is a fan, explain it to me...

While I'm not a die hard fan I do enjoy it. But I can't explain it to you, if you don't like it then you don't like it. Just like me trying to convince you why a movie you hate is an excellent movie. I hate almost all personal shooter games, no matter what the story or how hard I try to get in to them, I find them all exceedingly boring.

Weird! I tend to like those games quite a bit. Though my favorites are strategy games.

Hearts of Iron! :yay:

People like to play god, and it's mostly a girls game whereas men prefer the conquering the world type games.
Simple.

YES!

There is nothing more fun that conquering the world on a risk board.

Winning a risk game boosts my confidence in real life.

Yes, like virtually every human you desire complete control(power) of certain situations, and the whole world or even universe is a tempting prospect, even if it's just a virtual one. That's why games like the sims, spore, risk etc are so popular. It gives ordinary people a chance to do something they never could.

Really? It doesn't seem to affect mine outside of virtual worlds.

Some women enjoy strategic games too. I like Monopoly, Counterpoint Call Of Duty, Oblivion amongst other games. I don't think women prefer to play god, we just like to devise and most men like to implement. We have good ideas, men know how to put them into action.

I don't doubt that, there's quite a few that like WOW, but generally they go for games aimed at women or relatively unisex games. There are very few that go for COD style games. Likewise I don't know any guys that play The Sims, or Nintendogs. It's a bit like G.I Joe or Barbie, there's some crossover, but in very small amounts. Girls seem less interested in violence, they also play video games less, although their participation is on the increase. It's kind of like sports really.

I never said that, both sexes like playing god, I just said that WHAT they tend to play is different.

I have a real aversion to being hit with a hockey puck. :p Or a big stick.

That's what gaming is for! You control, they get hit, it's perfect.

You didn't, my bad. I agree, we do tend to play less violent games in general. Although I do like to play with virtual nukes myself at times. No harm in a bit of simulated violence is there?

None whatsoever, that's why it's so popular. :) I don't know why there's a difference between the sexes really, I'm sure it's slowly changing though.

well, if there was a mystery like find a killer, I could see the appeal, but otherwise, what happens in the game? In Spore there is evolution at least...

The main appeal, as I see it, is that people can use the characters they create to live alternate lives--and seeing as everyone is anonymous, these sock-puppets can take on any persona...often if not always, someone the player would rather be

I wouldn't think it would appeal to a grown man....
or any adult for that matter.

I think it is geared towards teens esp girls. They get to dress up and pretend to go on dates ...blah blah

But those are MUNDANE things to do. In most pretend games you do something what you can not do in real life. You can buy a TV in real life without problem or much money...

It's fun for us. That's really all there is to it. It just is.
If you don't like it, you don't like it. No need to get your panties in a twist because others do.

you don't always have to be doing something extraordinary to be entertained, the sims makes mundane things fun. its far more relaxing than games where you can do extraordinary things. i was trying to think of bloky aspects of the game. i think guys would like the design aspect, maximizing efficiency and making it look cool.

High detailed gaming hits entertainment and appeal with multiplayer and many options similar to the sims?
