M*W: This is a damn good question. However, after having visited many shrines and reliqueries(sp), I have come to the conclusion that it is not the relics themselves that heal but the belief in these relics that do the job. Those folks that were "healed" would probably have regained their health anyway. There's a lot to be said for the "power of positive thinking."

Because if they put all the pieces of the cross together they would probably be a foot wide & stretch the length of Italy. Either that or on one of those cold wintry nights the Pope needed some wood for the fire.

Proof denies faith and faith is the basis of their power. If proof were shown then the need for their existence would cease.
There is more value for them to make people believe they have proof.

Having been a Catholic myself, there was never a time that I heard anything about worshipping Satan. Don't get me wrong. There's a lot of things they do that turn my stomach, but why do they believe in Satan?

Crooks, not cooks, I'm sure; I can't see a whole bunch of pastry chefs running around curing cancer, AIDS or leprosy. (Oddly enough, thalidomide seems to work with # 3). Swarm has a good point too; why should God waste His/Her time sending another prophet or great healer down to this freaking madhouse when many if not most of them end up not dying in their beds?

Because no matter what relics one supposedly has in their posession, it is the Holy Spirit that does the Healing. And the Holy Spirit does not heal when doing so would give positive authority to the catholic church.
