    Hi there.

I am in the process of buying a new tv. The last one we had was bought about ten years ago, and in the meantime, I didn't keep up with the developments in the field of tv's.

I have already checked out some stores, but received some contradictory information (like that the 'Mpeg 4' specification suffices, or that the 'DVB' specification suffices).

What are the things I should watch out for when buying a new tv?
What characteristics should a new tv have, what should it not have?
What are some things I should pay special attention to (I mean technology-wise, not about the specifics of purchase)?

    Thank you!

The upto date type tv is any tv that supports HD. It could be full HD or normal HD. It depends on how much money you want to spend. My personal choice would be a HD plasma tv. If you also want to watch DVDs you'll have to be careful and get the right DVD that supports HD. Also check to make sure it would have the right connections. The best thing would be to go to a good store and tell them exactly what you want and what you want to hook up to it.

We are buying a Tv as well. As soon as the tax rebate arrives.

Where is the best place to get a TV? We were thinking ABC Warehouse.
Do they have TVs with a button to push that makes the remote beep? (like our phone does)

get the tv at most any best buy...etc.. not much markup really

but buy the component cables online... that's where the store gets you

I'm in Ireland so I can't recommend one over there but it's usually better to go to one of the bigger stores for good prices
