despite, years of specialist selective breeding and what not, race horses, unlike humans never seem to break speed recordsor improve over time, no matter who trains them

the record speed for the English Epsom Derby(pronounced darby) has never been broken AFAIK

    I wonder why not?
    any ideas?

What exactly do you think we need to do to train them to make them faster?
IIRC, human top speed record really hasn't been blown away (maybe broken a few times but probably just slightly).
A human's top speed is in the low 20s mph. With all the training and modern supplements humans have, we really haven't gotten much faster either.
I'm afraid both we (and horses) are currently phsyically and evolutionary limited to what we can do now.

no idea, old son, ; not a trainer. Fact is all this breeding etc. has not produced faster horses,AFAIK-despite the fact that winners get to cover winning mares. mind you those who follow breeding tend pick more winners than them as don't
