From Ex-Bush official: Many at Gitmo are innocent (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29778047/):

A former Bush administration official says many Guantanamo detainees are innocent and have been held only because U.S. officials hoped they would know something important.

Lawrence B. Wilkerson was chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell. He says only two dozen or so of the roughly 800 men held at Guantanamo are terrorists.

Differs quite a bit from Cheney's claim. Cheney probably believes the 50,000 held without charge in Iraq are all terrorists too. This is exactly why people should be charged in a reasonable time. Shame on all Republican voters!

But the democrats also voted to fund the camp as well, so it would seem to me all of Congress are scumbags in that case wouldn't it?

Sure, some Democrats are scumbags too. Republican voters led the charge though, so they deserve the lion's share of the blame. True liberals have believed all along that most Gitmo detainees are likely innocent (otherwise, why not charge them?).

From George Carlin:

"Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain't going to do any good; you're just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it's not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here... like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There's a nice campaign slogan for somebody: 'The Public Sucks. Fuck Hope.'"

Given the impracticality of imprisoning half the nation, I'd settle for every Republican doing a thousand hours of community service.

i agree with him, term limits dont do anything except preventing a good leader from serving as long as the public and the person himself want to serve. In fact i would suggest they breed coruption because if you know that no matter how popular you are, how well you do you cant be reelected why would you give a toss? you would be out for yourself where as without term limits the pollies are always thinking of the next election.

Look at what just happened in parliment, the goverments legislation which was the whole reason the party was put into goverment was blocked in the senate, rather than saying "oh well fuck it" they stared the senate down and the independents folded. Why? because if they DIDNT fold the goverment would have sent us to the polls with the whole senate disolved. If they did this over IR concidering thats what the last election was fought on i would predict that the independents and the oposition would have been anhalated and Fielding (family first) knew it.

Maybe because they'll be hot for revenge after being falsely incarcerated for 7 years? Yes I know, to a Republican that's reason enough to keep holding them.

You seem to making blanket accusations about a very large group of people whilst complaining that said group of people do precisely the same thing, albeit to a smaller group of people. Do you not see this as at least slightly hypocritical?

zanket

The large group of people is guilty, whereas the smaller group of people is mostly innocent.

These assholes were arrested today:

Clay County Clerk, Freddy Thompson, 45, allegedly provided money to election officers to be distributed by the officers to buy votes and he also instructed officers how to change votes at the voting machine.
...
Election officer William E. Stivers, 56, allegedly marked votes or issued tickets to voters who had sold their votes and changed votes at the voting machine.
...
Paul E. Bishop, 60, allegedly marked voters or issued tickets to voters who sold their votes and he also hosted alleged meetings at his home where money was pooled together by candidates and distributed to election officers, including himself. He was also accused of instructing the officers how to change votes at the voting machine.

Because they're poor.

More likely becuase they are only supposedly innoccent of crimes against the US, They may be guilty of many heinous crimes back home.

Also we are taking the word of a supposed Bush lackey who just may be looking to save himself from the coming witch hunt byt tossing out a few lies to apease liberals. In other words we have the word of a known liar when it is in his interest to lie.

I advocate term limits, true the stock may suck but the longer a politician is in power the more corrupt they become on average. Constantly washing it with scummy water is better than letting it soak in the shit and stagnate.

If they are all innocent, then why do their host countries not want them back?

If I slanderous your name, say I called you a pedophile, got you imprisoned and then the government quietly lets you out, do you think anyone would let you near their child? Your on all the private pedophile registries and watches, sure the government may label you innocent but its still on record that you were once charged for pedophilia. When trying to get employment and ask "were you ever charged for a crime" you think "yes, but I was later found innocent" is going to make everything all better?

No one wants these people because they been called scum, imprisoned as such, and they are poor and useless as well.

Someone who doesn't know any better might fall prey to such a horrid assault. Someone who does will quickly issue a law suit for defamation...and they will sue for so much money that it seriously hurts the accuser. If you doubt me, try making claims that some of the rich, famous, or leading politicians are pedophiles...so long as your voice goes unheard and provides no impact they won't even bother to deal with you...but if it does...your in big trouble...

Also...if your in a job interview and such comes up and you say..."oh yeah...I made 100,000 suing the asshole who accused me of such on charges of defamation"...the potential employer is far more likely to give respect...then if you did nothing about it.

We are talking about people who many of whom can't even read and write and have no schooling what so ever, who are not US citizens, who at present have no citizenship what so ever, you honestly think they want or can sue???

If you doubt me trying making claims that some of the rich, famous, or leading politicians are pedophiles...
Try making claims that that some bum off the street is a pedophile, at least that is a closer analogy to some random Afghan than rich and famous people!
