View Full Version : My neck is killing me!!!

I went to the Chiropractor on Friday for an adjustment. I felt fine for the rest of the day. Saturday I woke up and felt a like tightness in my neck. It got progressively worse until yesterday when I went back to the chiropractor to get refixed. Nothing has changed since. I still cant rotate my head/neck in the right hemisphere, meaning I can't turn right, tilt right, nothing. It hurts to turn left as well, but not so much to tilt left. Every little step I take, bump on the road, anything, hurts really badly. I would think that after getting readjusted and putting ice on it for hours last night that it would feel better today but it doesn't; it feels just as bad, if not worse, than yesterday. What do you think the problem is and what should I do?

I think you should seek real medical advice...go to a real medical doctor immediately and that would include an Emergency Room.

I tried Icy Hot but it's not the muscles. My muscles aren't sore at all. It feels like the spine itself.

The problem is a pain in the neck and you should see a real doctor, not a chiropractor, ASAP.

MZ, have you slept on a couch lately?

Without getting into chiropractor-bashing (because some of the things they do can help a little), there's been a lot of reports over the past few years of them actually causing spinal damage with their "adjustments."

As already mentioned, I'd go see an MD as soon as possible and have a set of X-rays made. If you are lucky, you might get off with nothing more than a prescription for a muscle relaxer. (That's my guess at your problem, having had exactly what you describe about four times myself.)

I have had this a few times. It has always gone away on its own after two or three days..
I always got it at night, so I noticed it in the morning like you did. I always figured I had slept in a weird position or something.
It goes away at night as well, for me at least.
I have this once every one or two years. And it's rather horrible, I know.

Seeing that your Chiropractor might be to blame, I'd go back to him until its gone. He should treat you for free in my opinion.

Good luck :)

I just got back from the chiro once again.

Heres the verdict....

Damaged rotator cuff due to ultra tight msucles
The main vertabra that connects your neck to your back was way out of line.
Because of both of those, I've got some major swelling between and around the vertebra and around the shoulder.

Long story made short, I ended up doing ultrasound and electro therapy, decompression therapy and a few other things. Hopefully I am in recovery, we will see. I go back Friday for a follow up. :bawl:

I still suggest you go to a medical doctor. You could have many things including an infection which could be life threatening. So I repeat, you should go to a medical doctor. Maybe it is something simple, but then maybe it is something more critical. You will not know for sure unless you see a medical doctor.

But I agree with Joepistole, it would be best to also see your doctor and tell him what happened. A second opinion can't hurt.

I am also unconvinced. I too, think you need to see a real doctor and NOT the same chiropractor that obviously either caused, or aggravated the damage.

Seriously hun, you should have an Xray or ultrasound by someone who is not so interested in getting you to give him more money. A good chiropractor would NEVER suggest you get treatment from him for a shoulder injury, and may even suggest a referral to a doctor that does. Chiropractors are more metaphysical than scientific and can cause real harm and most go into it for the money itself. Please go see a licensed physician.

Perhaps the chiropractor messed something up. I say, let the doctor take a look at it as well to be completely sure it's harmless.

Read my last post. A number of infectious agents can cause neck pain too. There could be a number of possible causes. The lack of trauma makes it even more suspicious.

Yes no need for panic. But it should be evaluated by a medical doctor. And it might be easily treated. But it should be checked by a licensed professional medical physician who has the knowledge and tools to make a good diagnosis.

the reason i asked him about how he slept is because i sometimes get neck pains from how i sleep. and sometime bad enough so that i can barely turn my head.

as a matter of fact, one time i was only half asleep and i noticed that i prop my head against surface and used it to spin my entire body around without using my arms. This was an eye opener for me as it showed a possible reason for the neck pain. but it is just a sore neck, so then maybe he has MUCH serious problem.

Yes but it may not hold true in all cases. The fact his no one here nor his chiropracter has the knowledge and tools to make a good diagnosis and treat him.

I hope the best for him and hope he goes to a medical doctor.

Because there was NOTHING wrong with him before he went to the chiropractor and no known injury caused it either. The trauma was obviously caused by the person who was working on the soft tissue in that area (a.k.a. the chiropractor) and should be looked at by an objective third party not interested in whether or not he harmed MZ, or looking to make more money off him. Chiropractors are not licensed physicians, they are only licensed to deal with the soft tissues of the neck and spine. If he's got a rotator cuff injury, that's a cartilidge injury to the shoulder and he should see an orthopaedic doctor. Shoulder injuries most commonly occur during sports activities, work-related tasks, projects around the home, or falls. He indicated that the only thing was the chiropractor... that is suspect in and of itself. IF it is a rotator cuff injury, you do not treat that with tens (electro-therapy) at all ever... Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation and Referral to an orthpaedic doctor is the only way to treat a cuff injury with any kind of good success. Any sports doctor will tell you that right away.

Seriously, he needs to see a real doctor and quick or he could have real lasting damage that could effect the rest of his life. It's not something you just take lightly.

Until then, I'm laying here on my couch with ice on my neck. I will report in tomorrow and let ya'll know if there is any progress.

PM me if you feel like you can't drive yourself, I'm not that far away and I'll give you my number and a ride to the ER.

Thank you for you sincere generosity.

I've had a fever off and on for about a week (before the chiro) and I think because of that, I'm not only fighting the pain in my neck, but also something else. I think my body is just so overwhelmed and exhausted with everything going on that it's taking forever to heal. Hell, I have a cut on my hand that hasn't healed in a week, and usually those are gone in a few days. And I'm wondering if some of the pain in my neck is being caused by a swollen lymph node. I dunno. But should I need to go to the ER, I'm sure my boyfriend will take me. But if he doesn't for whatever reason then I will surely PM you.

I think the worst part about this whole ordeal is not the stiff and painful neck, but the killer headache I've had for the past 3 days. If it wasn't for that, I think this would be mildly bareable.

I spent most of this afternoon sleeping which doesn't help. lol I feel great for about two minutes after I wake up, but then the pain sets in and it's back to bed for me. Anywho, I'm going to get some more rest and most likely will not be able to log back in the rest of the day (unless of course I have to).

Thanks again for the support and advice. I'm even taking prayers for those offering lol. I just want to get rid of the pain, any way and as soon as possible.

MZ, the headache comes from your neck condition, it's directly related.
You being sick even before you went to the chiropractor might indicate an infection. The chiropractor might have just stirred it up..
With these added symptoms you describe now you need to see a doctor asap, in my opinion. Better safe than sorry man.

I'm pretty sure mine knows what he's doing. He graduated at one of the nations highest chiro schools in the country as cum laude and number 1 in his class. He then opened his own practice on his own. And since then he has been rated as one of the best in the state. He's earned awards from numerous companies, including various branches of the government and military.

Unfortunately because of this, he's also one of the most expensive in the state. But he's a good guy that knows his sh*t.

^^ What she said.

I went to see a chiropractor once. When I was a teenager I had dislocated my arm in a particular violent volleyball game and after it healed, I still had niggling pain at night. Someone suggested a Chiropractor. It was bad. Lets just say that for about a week after the 're-alignment', I was unable to lift up my arm above my chest and had severe neck, shoulder and back pain. He had dislocated my shoulder during his treatment and then tried to pop it back in, causing further injury to the joint.

If you need that kind of treatment MZ, you're better off going to see a sports doctor or an osteopathic medical physician, who are real doctors.

You shouldn't wait to go and see a real doctor. Book an appointment at the earliest possible time today and if you can't get an appointment today, go to the emergency room. Neck injuries and possible spinal injuries is not something you want to not see to immediately.

Unfortunately because of this, he's also one of the most expensive in the state. But he's a good guy that knows his sh*t.
If he "knew his shit", you wouldn't be in agony on your couch with an ice-pack on your neck having to down pain killers. Seriously, don't wait. Get it seen to immediately.

I had the same problem and it went on for months. I was in excruciating pain and they weren't sure what it was so I had to go for an MRI. I had 2 bulging discs in my upper back. I am still in pain, even though I take medication now.:(and this is a year a bit later.
