What is the difference between these two words' meanings (if there is one)?

Onomastics is just about names. Toponomastics is the study of the names of places and anthroponomastics is the study of the names of people.
Etymology studies the origins of all words, not just names.
The etymology of the word "onomastics" traces it to the Greek word onoma, "name."
