I don't mean for this to turn into one of those threads where everyone says what they wish they had a video of.

But I wish I had a video of the moon as it reflected off the lake tonight. The surface was very calm but there are always ripples from the wind, or vibrations from the homes around the lake, minnows eating misquotes, lots of things cause criss crossing ripples.

And the sky was clear, the half moon was bright in the West, and its reflection was in the water about 25 feet from me. The water was near black and the ripples were always three or four across the moon and varying by direction, and multiple directions unsynchronized and every once in awhile there was perfect geometry all synchronized and forming a rippling peak and a trough, another peak and a half of a trough. That is the kind of video it would have been. The moon image is split into three, then four, almost five, and then four, then three, then two and a half, and then back up. Make it repeating patterns like that of all varieties. Thanks

The lake's still there. The Moon is still there. All it needs is patience.

That's beautiful. Why didn't you take the video?

Here are some short videos about moon rise, quite nice:

No, nothing like what I saw at all, but definitely a stunning photo. The moon is a magnificent sight and that photo almost seems surreal with respect to the intensity of it's reflection on the pond/lagoon.

Very interesting, the photo, the videos. I'm going to take Kaneda's advice and be ready for the next time the conditions are right. The moon reflection was a white light on a black background like in the photo. But the water as just slightly wavy and rippling. Each ripple cut the moon with a black strip. And each black stripe moved across the white light of the moon from top to bottom, or from side to side, and when several ripples came from different directions the moon was cut into slices that criss crossed as they moved across the white light. To watch it for a few minutes is was constantly shimmering and dancing and changing shape within the moons reflection but the overall location remained fixed and gave an impression of a surreal iridescent orb of pure energy. I'll capture it someday, I know I will.

I got this video tonight. It isn't as good as I would like but I'll post it to give you an idea of what I was talking about in the OP.

The angle was not the same as the other night. In this shot the moon is almost directly overhead. The moon is waxing and if the conditions are right I plan to get the full moon with a large angle of reflection to see if I can get the perfect shot :).
