CNN claimed they used a hologram to "bring in" someone from a different city into the studio. The result we saw on the screen was like star wars (life size) person displayed on a red dot. Was this an actual hologram - was the person visible to the interviewer in the studio?, or was the interviewer just staring at the red dot? I doubt it was a real hologram because I could see no projectors in the studio. I think it was just an elaborate video effect done live buit there was no actual hologram in te studio.

yeah, I just googled it. It's some fancy editiing but definetly not a hologram. That's bullshit. That's what we've come to expect from CNN (& other news networks) -- misleading claims.

holographic technology exists. The setup would have to be much more complicated. I think they would need a medium (gas) to project on to in the first place. ...

A lot of stuff exists but that doesn't mean it's plausible you see it on TV like that.

The sad part is that there is absolutely no need for seeing a reporting person's body. Actually, even the voice is sufficient and instead they should show the surroundings or the events taking place...

We just get the same smelly shit in a more fancy way...

All these idiot newscasters calling their video effects "holograms" need to be severely beaten with a big heavy optics textbooks.

I think the point is that the people being interviewed were not physically in the studio.

This is a no brainer. You don't even have to ask or do any research. Just look at the video. It is special effects. There is no actual hologram. BEP is standing in a spot with cameras. They can hear eachother speaking, and they are both standing there. then the footage is compiled to show both of them.

Why? It is a news program. It is television. All shows use special effects. Thats all video is special effects to create a picture. It is a video picture of a hologram. Just like I can create a computer CGI model of a table, animal, person, monster etc. It is not an actual table/animal, but in the animation, the table is there.

I think Nasor's point (and my point) is that if it's not a Hologram, then don't tell the audience it is. Especially if it's a news program where facts and truth are kinda important.

Huh ? Don't tell me you are one of those people that put a cat in a microwave oven to dry it and then sues the company because the cat died and it didn't say in the manual that you can't put cats in there.
