So when the chips are down, the republicans want big government to bail them out? Are they secretly all communists? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I wish that was the case. More of a united group of men and women devoted to money making schemes working out for them.
Yes, give our money to people who can't account for what's already missing. Perfect. Maybe they can gamble that away also. Don't forget that these programs made a few high powered politicians rich also. I know some republicans were shouting about Fan/fred years and years ago. Now they opt to just bulldoze the growing pile of problems into the future.
You didn't think that the wars were redistribution of wealth schemes. From each according to his or her lack of power. To each according to his or her greed.
No but the ideology is flawed. Not everyone is equal, there are the weak, and the strong, the intelligent, and the stupid. And they shouldn't all get the same benefits. Socialist capitalism is best.
You have to come out of the den a little more and actually make the argument. But I can be plainer about my point and give you, perhaps, a better inroad. Bush et al. privitized much of what before was not private in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The contracts went to companies with very strong administration ties. Further the contracts to companies for rebuilding these countries also went - often without bidding - to companies that had very strong ties to the Bush administration. Thus you have two wars that were not declared by Congress in which enormous public funds were transferred from taxpayers to friends and close business partners of the small group that decided to have these wars and in the way they had these wars. And none of this is even getting into the oil issues. One can make a case that the wars were just or good or whatever, but it is clear from administration documents and from neo-con think tank suggestions that the power groups hovering around and in the Bush admin. have wanted to go into these two countries, oust their former allies, and gain control of the regions and resources, all the while chanelling money into friendly companies. Those with lesser power - taxpayers in general - are taken from. Those with more power and greed are on the receiving end. A kind of Marxism in reverse, but big government - something the right always complains about - absolutely in control of enormous taxation and redistribution of wealth.
Oh, I know what you were saying, but that hardly relates to Congress funneling $700b into Wall Street because of a potential liquidity crisis. In fact, it relates only tangentially, insomuch that th gov't is spending money.
Au contraire...look at the OP. First, what I posted relates to SAM's (mock) shock that the government is giving away money. IOW she can hardly have missed the pattern so the (albeit played up) 'surprise' over this is surprising. So I played along by being surprised she would be surprised the Republicans would do such a thing. But it certainly relates more than simply that the government is spending money. It is how it is spending money and tying this in with the fact that it is a Republican regime that is doing it. Of course the Dems might very well have bailed out wall street, but 1) they are not always whining about government redistribution of money and big government in general and 2) were less likely to have started wars for profit motives. Not that I am a big fans of the Dems. So both government vast expenditures - on wars and the bailout - should be seen as hypocritical in ways that the Dems are less vulnerable to. That was the seriousness under my mock surprised response to SAM's mock surprised post. The OP was Republicans are Communists and the communist nations would have approved of and certainly carried out similar measures - pulling wealth from the people for armament and expansion and saving businesses. But with the communists the businesses were state owned. Here its the other way round. The state is business owned.
I have to admit this made me chuckle quite a bit yesterday: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! http://volokh.com/posts/1222283077.shtml
Who gets bailed out and who does not? There's the rub. And who has the power to make financial crises and then benefit from the government's response?
