Tekken 5 and the PS3

I'm trying to do complex moves with Jack-5 on Tekken 5; however, whenever I try to use the analog stick(s), nothing happens.

Does anyone know how to remedy this problem?

(BTW: whenever I Hit the PS button and go to the controller options, my controller is already set to analog mode)

but that is a very odd thing i have never heard of that
