You slay me! But not "sleight" me. (though, that would be cool too, I've never been on one, 'spcially with a Hun). ~String
Hey, here is an interesting news. I forgot where exactly, but the city forbid for newspapers to print local team results (for 8-9 years old) because it makes them more competitive. They just want the kids to enjoy the sport (everybody is a winner!) and not to do it too seriously, I guess.. What's wrong with competition? I think sport wins and loses teach the kids about real life, that NOT everybody is a winner... OK, I have found it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...h-results--make-children-TOO-competitive.html "The Football Association said the change was designed to encourage children to appreciate the sport rather than winning it. Under the ruling, newspapers are banned from publishing youth team results for fear of making children too competitive."
Insane! Life is competition. Life is a struggle. It should be. It's from competition, pain, loss and defeat that we learn to deal constructively and learn from those events. It is also a time when we cement the reality of life in the minds of children: you should struggle and fight every day of your life to do better, to be better and to achieve "something" more. For some it will be sports. For some it will be social service. For others it will be medicine. Whatever your passion, you should be fighting to improve every day of your life until you die. Now, we're just raising prissy wimps who expect a cushy life to be given to them, and not earned. We learn to compete -- in both good ways and bad -- when we are young. It's imperative to learn to deal with winning and losing at an early age. It would be like denying infants the right to see, because we wanted them to enjoy sound or touch more. There is a small window when a person (always a child) is able to successfully "learn" something, and learning to lose (and win) with dignity happens within a slim window in life. People are getting more and more worthless with time. This obsession with shielding children from the reality of life is absolute insanity. ~String
I'm a basketball referee in my spare time. My favorite place to referee is in Christian schools for obvious reasons. Here's to all the good looking moms that frequent the basketball arena. Eye candy is essential to good refereeing.
Why is everybody (nearly) here so anti-sport, I tried making sports/martial arts threads before and they die faster than a bible wielding christian walking down the gaza strip. peace.
Because it is supposed to be a geeksite, favored by people who were used to be beaten up by jocks. My guess... The Steelers are losing, by the way...

Perhaps SAM can give us an update on the Afghani Buzkashi League. Kabul and Kandahar are fighting it out for first place. Mustapha RimRam, the most decorated Moslem on horseback is embroiled in a huge scandal back home. Seems the first half of his last match was played with the headless carcass of RimRam's wife. Rumor has it that he killed his wife, cut off her head and soaked the carcass in water overnite. Apparently the next day it was brought to the centre of the arena and the game went on as scheduled. Lawyers are having a tough time getting testimony from fellow players at the game who all say they thought they were playing with the traditional headless goat carcass.
