It started when I installed some older XP cardgames (Hoyle) on the new Vista laptop. After I turn it on the display setting keeps reverting to the lowest setting possible and I have to manually change it to a higher resolution and bitrate.
Is it really the cardgame or something inside vista that causes the problem? Even when the games weren't opened, the setting reverts to the lowest...

I think you might need to update the video drivers. What type of graphics card does it have?

I found at least 2 different solutions. The problem is that both Nvidia monitor management and Vista are figthing over the control.

"Disabling TMM in Task Scheduler works. To access Task Scheduler in Vista, go to the Start Menu and type in Task Scheduler. In the 'Task Scheduler Library', select Microsoft->Windows->MobilePC. Right click 'TMM' and select 'Disable'. You will need to log out and then log back in for changes to take effect."
