    Any recommendations ?

Hated Ulead.. more features than your default movie maker, but still a bit hard to use for a newbie.

I can learn, but I need something with the basic features that works with all the file formats.

My favourite is Sony Vegas. It's easy, straightforward and powerful.
I'm editing a short film with it now.

Microsoft Movie Maker is one choice. If free is important, and it's easy to use. I've used it for YT before. 2.6 is for vista, 2.1 for XP. It's nothing special like most Microsoft software, but it will work for basic stuff.

There is Jahshaka, but that is a monster of a program. You bette rknow video editing well if you try that.

Wax is way cool. But again since it's powerful it's a bit more technical. Nowhere near as complex as Jahshaka though.

Avid FreeDV has been disontinued, but you can still download it, it's more powerful than Microsoft, so a bit more complicated.

    I use Adobe Premiere.

It's professional quality, and there is a learning curve, but if you've used other non-linear editing software, you should be able to figure out the basics. The downside is it's not free.

My head hurts from Adobe Premiere, it so cluttered! I like the GUI of Sony Vegas much better.

I've never used Sony Vegas, but to me they look pretty similar.

I'll try Adobe premiere off a friend, and see how that goes. I guess I've gotta get technical sooner or later.
